7 Mileslife Dining Partners Where You Can Earn The Most Skywards Miles

November 30, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

The number of partner merchants under Mileslife has expanded so quickly that it is sometimes hard to decide exactly which one to visit to earn your Miles. Recently, Mileslife has included a category called “Best For Miles”, where users can sort through the dining establishments providing the highest number of Miles per $1 spend.

If you have linked your Emirates Skywards account to the Mileslife app as your frequent flyer programme of choice, you can also earn bonus Skywards Miles ranging from 25% to 75% if you are a Silver, Gold or Platinum member. Currently, Emirates Skywards is the only frequent flyer programme on Mileslife that offers tier based bonuses. If you’ve always wanted to redeem your Skywards Miles for Emirates flights, it is so much easier and more convenient now with Mileslife, as the Skywards Miles you earn with partner merchants are credited to your Emirates Skywards account directly. Essentially, this complements any Miles you earn on Emirates flights. There are also no extra fees to be incurred for crediting the Miles into your account, unlike with credit card point redemptions.

Redemption-wise, you can use your Skywards Miles to partially offset the cost of your Emirates flight or you can also use it to redeem a reward flight. Emirates has a couple of direct routes out of Singapore, including Colombo, Dubai, Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as indirect flights to Europe, Africa and the Americas so there are plenty of opportunities to redeem those Skywards Miles. Out of Singapore, the minimum number of Skywards Miles you can use to redeem a flight is for an Economy Class round trip Saver ticket to Colombo. That requires 27,500 Miles (for base fare only). Assume you have flown Emirates in the past for long haul trips. One round trip flight to Europe and another to the United States from Singapore over the years on an Economy Flex fare would have already netted you 23,250 Skywards Miles. Add in the Skywards Miles you could get with Mileslife to make up for the difference (i.e. 4,250 Miles in this example) and you’d have enough Miles for a redemption flight to Colombo.

Among the Mileslife dining partners that are best for earning Skywards Miles, here are my recommendations:

Maggie Joan’s – New Menu in the Backstreets of Amoy

November 12, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Amoy Street has become synonymous with hip restaurants these days and unknown to many, the back alley which is sandwiched between Amoy and Club Street – Gemmill Lane – has been housing a number of “underground” restaurants for a couple of years now. One of the alley’s earliest resident – Maggie Joan’s – turns two this year and has launched a revamped menu. This serves to match a redefined look that is marked by a private dining room with three chandeliers.  Overall, the new look adds another level of quirkiness to a restaurant that is already known for being unconventional. For instance, the venue deliberately places its entrance in a nondescript passageway, going against conventional business sensibilities.

Recently, I headed down to Maggie Joan’s to try the new menu. Although I work nearby and often go to Amoy Street for lunch, this was actually my first time to have a meal at Gemmill Lane. The entrance to Maggie Joan’s is purposely discreet. You enter in the sort of door that’s akin to those being used by service crew elsewhere. From that moment on, you’ll know this is not your usual type of dining venue.

Guide to Singapore Hotel Christmas Buffets, Brunches and Dinners – 2017 Edition

November 4, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

There are still 51 days until Christmas as of this writing but hotels across Singapore have been quietly preparing their festive offers for 2017. If you are already wondering where to bring your clients, family and friends for that Christmas buffet, brunch or dinner; this mini-guide across some of the most well-known hotels in Singapore offers a snapshot of what’s on offer for the yuletide season this year.

Editor’s Note: For the 2018 list, please check the compilation HERE

This coming festive season will see a lot of creative flavors – from the likes of Tandoori and Laksa Turkey interspersed with perennial favorites such as Goodwood Park Hotel’s Slow-Roasted Iberico Pork Belly (in my opinion, the best Christmas dish to have this year) and haute dining such as the special set menus from Brasserie les Saveurs at St. Regis Singapore and La Dolce Vita at Mandarin Oriental Singapore. Happy feasting!

If you are planning a staycation over the holidays, you can also check out this extensive list of Singapore hotel reviews HERE.

New Dimsum Weekend Experience at Jade, Fullerton Hotel Singapore

October 29, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Jade at Fullerton Hotel Singapore has revamped its popular dimsum brunch buffet. Instead of having two seatings, the dimsum experience during weekends will now consist of just one seating, lasting from 12 noon until 3pm. The format has also changed and guests can now choose between three different set menus with 5 to 6 courses each. There is also an option now to order from a more concentrated ala carte menu of mains, including my favorite Simmered Egg Noodles with Boston Lobster and X.O. Chilli Sauce. Recently, I was invited to Jade to check out the revamped weekend dimsum experience.

The new set menus are:

  • Purple Finch (S$68) – 5 courses
  • Paradise Flycatcher (S$88) – 5 courses
  • Royal Peacock (S$108) – 6 courses

You can view the full dimsum menu details HERE.

Morton’s The Steakhouse just introduced a couple of new items to line their menu this season. The seven items consist of some totally new dishes alongside old favorites that are making a return after being off-menu for a couple of years. Last week, I was invited over to Morton’s to sample some of these items – I have to say I was quite impressed!

Window on the Park at Holiday Inn Orchard City Centre – Southeast Asian Buffet With Lobster

September 21, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Have you heard of the new Southeast Asian-themed buffet in Holiday Inn Orchard City Centre? Window on the Park, the hotel’s in-house restaurant, is presenting their own take on a variety of classic local and regional dishes from different countries in the ASEAN region including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Singapore.

Try out some Indonesian favorites like Tekwan and Gulai Udang, or maybe some Thai and Malaysian delights like Papaya salad, Thai crab cakes and steamed Otah. For those who prefer something more familiar, they also offer classic Singaporean favorites like chili or black pepper crab, Roti Prata with Fish Curry, and Kueh Pie Tee.

Review: The Bird Southern Table & Bar – Famous Chicken & Waffles at Marina Bay Sands

September 4, 2017 by Bino 1 Comment

Marina Bay Sands has collaborated with 50 Eggs in order to bring the first international location of the award-winning Yardbird Southern Table & Bar to Singapore, operating under the name The Bird Southern Table & Bar. An ode to Southern sensibilities and farm-fresh ingredients, The Bird offers signature dishes such as Chicken & Waffles to a new audience. Recently, I was invited over for a tasting which runs through some of the house specialties and I must say I was impressed.
The venue itself is akin to a more spruced up version of what you might find in the deep south of the United States. Rustic wooden motifs are polished, accentuated with golden hanging lamps and faux bricks for a more sophisticated audience.

6 Cream-of-the-Crop Sunday Brunches in Singapore Worth Splurging For

August 3, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

The mother of all buffets – Sunday brunches have practically become synonymous to lazy (but indulgent) afternoons spent feasting on delicious seafood and downing glasses of champagne. Plenty of venues in Singapore offer Sunday brunches. I’ve tried quite a few and these are my favorites:
