Rosso Vino at Robertson Quay (With 15% Discount) – Home Style Italian Food in Cozy Riverside Setting

July 29, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

I went last week to Rosso Vino (Italian for “red wine”) near the Robertson Quay Hotel to sample their dishes. The small, privately-owned restaurant prides itself on serving homemade Italian dishes prepared using traditional methods from Southern Italy. Sourcing the freshest ingredients they can get both locally and internationally, the restaurant provides guests with delicious, authentic Italian cuisine paired with excellent wines.

Rosso Vino is nestled between the Singapore River and Robertson Quay Hotel. Guests have the option to dine outside by the river’s edge or inside the cozy restaurant. Since it was a warm night, I opted to dine indoors where I enjoyed examining the various knick-knacks adorning the venue. There is warm lighting all around the restaurant, providing a nice, warm ambiance suitable for family get-togethers, small parties with friends, and even date nights.

La Brasserie at Fullerton Bay Hotel – Revamped Menu and Interiors

July 22, 2017 by Bino 2 Comments

For a luxury hotel complex, I’ve always thought the F&B outlets at both Fullerton Hotel and Fullerton Bay Hotel offered good value for money. At Jade, the Chinese restaurant, the weekend dimsum brunch is always booked out well in advance due to the reasonable pricing while the picturesque Clifford Pier enables one to dine with marvelous views of Marina Bay for below $20 before tax.

some gin and tonic to start with

Similarly, the French restaurant, La Brasserie seems to look far more opulent than the prices in its menu suggest. I’ve dined here a few times and even came for breakfast once during a staycation at Fullerton Bay Hotel and found the food to be of high quality and the prices to be affordable for a high-class French restaurant in the CBD.

Ash & Elm at InterContinental Singapore – Breakfast Themed Sunday Champagne Brunch

July 21, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Among all hotel restaurants serving buffet, none probably got me smitten in terms of ambiance as much as Ash & Elm at InterContinental Singapore. I’m always for natural lighting and it’s a joy to come here in the day with the morning and afternoon sunlight penetrating the ceiling. To be honest, I have had no prior experience with their buffet (aside from the ones I tried for breakfast during my staycation at InterContinental Singapore). While I do love the ala carte – I still have fond memories of the Iberico pork from the menu – I’ve heard pretty good things about the brunch offerings here. The buffet here is not about offering as much variety as possible. That is not the intention. Instead, what one gets is a well-curated assortment of items on the spread plus a decent amount of ala carte dishes to enjoy. I recently visited Ash & Elm to try out their revamped Sunday champagne brunch – one that incorporates a breakfast theme.

Tono Cevicheria – Fantastic Peruvian Food at DUO (Bugis)

July 17, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

I had my first taste of Peruvian food more than a decade ago as a student in San Francisco. Having returned to Asia since then, I could not really find a Peruvian venue that was as compelling. That is, until Tono Cevicheria came along in Duo near Bugis. Conceived by Chef Daniel Chavez who also owns Ola Cocina del Mar in Marina Bay Financial Centre, Tono is quite possibly the only full-fledge Peruvian restaurant in Singapore today. While it is touted as a “cevicheria,” it does not mean they serve only ceviche. On the contrary, there are varying dishes – from small plates to meatier mains. I was recently invited to Tono to check out the food and I must say it ticked off my checklist for authentic Peruvian cuisine.

We started off with the iconic dish – ceviche. In Tono, the dishes are reflective of the various nationalities living in Peru. Some dishes come with Japanese nuances which they call “Nikkei”, owing to the large Japanese community there while there is also “Chifa,” another category which carries plenty of Chinese influences.

One-Ninety Restaurant at Four Seasons Singapore – Middle Eastern Cuisine From Guest Chef Adnan Al Masri From Four Seasons Doha

July 11, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

From now until 28th July 2017, One Ninety Restaurant at Four Seasons Singapore has Chef Adnan Al Masri from Four Seasons Doha preparing a delectable selection of home style food, clay pot dishes and grilled meats.

The dishes are all inspired from the countryside of Damascus in Syria where Chef Adnan comes from. He is also heavily inspired by his mother’s cooking of traditional Arabic food, one which uses a variety of ingredients such as olives, mint, yoghurt and many other types of condiments and vegetables.

Straits Kitchen Buffet at Grand Hyatt Singapore

July 4, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Straits Kitchen at Grand Hyatt Singapore occupies a special place where hotel buffets are concerned. In a country with a fast-changing f&b landscape, this restaurant’s hugely popular buffet has kept itself relevant for more than a decade – a rarity when it comes to the Lion City. Not only does it attract locals looking to savor spicy hawker-style dishes all in one roof, it has also become the de facto venue for tourists looking to sample Singapore food without having to brave the food courts. Even the renowned travel guide, Lonely Planet, cites it as one of the recommended places to eat in Singapore.

Personally, Straits Kitchen is one of my favorite hotel buffets in Singapore. You might not find freshly shucked oysters here or lobsters – and that is not what this buffet is about either – but I’ve always thought the offering left little in terms of fillers. There are just so many specialties here in this halal buffet – from the delectable soya sauce chicken to the flavorful Indian dishes down to my favorite muah chee for desserts. The venue is definitely one I always look forward to visiting.

*NEW* Ginger – Buffet Restaurant at Parkroyal on Beach Road

June 29, 2017 by Bino 1 Comment

Ginger is the name of the new restaurant occupying what was once Plaza Brasserie in Parkroyal on Beach Road. The all-dining restaurant now carries a new name, a fresh look and more importantly a refreshed menu thanks to its new chef, Andy Oh who used to be at 10 at Claymore in Pan Pacific Orchard.

True to its name, the rebranded dining concept specializes on local cuisine and the inaugural buffet theme is dubbed “Flavours of the East” with an emphasis on crustaceans. I was invited to visit Ginger on its opening day on the 27th of June and found it to be a rather pleasant change to what Plaza Brasserie offered previously.

Il Lido at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa – White Asparagus Menu

June 28, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

I was invited to a tasting last week at Sofitel Sentosa’s Il Lido At The Cliff restaurant to preview their new White Asparagus set menu. As someone who enjoys vegetables/ believes in healthy eating, this seemed like an interesting opportunity to try out new dishes which feature one of my favorites.

Il Lido is the property’s Italian restaurant, located right by a cliff that overlooks the Straits of Singapore. There are tables both inside and outside the restaurant building to cater for different preferences. We arrived in the early evening just before dusk and were greeted warmly by staff who led us to our table at the shaded terrace. The outside tables are very popular due to the views of the strait. In the evening, the lights of the passing barges provide a scenic backdrop fit for any celebration.
