Review: Man Fu Yuan Launches a NEW 2020 Menu – Here’s What to Order

October 17, 2020 by Bino Leave a Comment

The thought of Man Fu Yuan inevitably conjures images of theatrically presented dishes. The great thing here is that it’s not all for show – the food is consistently good and the venue is oftentimes considered as among the best Chinese restaurants in Singapore.

This year marks the second year since Chef Aaron Tan came onboard as the restaurant’s Executive Chinese Chef. I had tried Chef Aaron’s creations in 2019 during his debut year at InterContinental Singapore and loved it so I was quite curious to see what new things he has come up with for 2020.

Man Fu Yuan 满福苑 (2018) at InterContinental Singapore – Refreshed Modern Concept

April 16, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

Man Fu Yuan (满福苑) at InterContinental Singapore requires no introduction. The Chinese restaurant has been generally recognized as one of the best in the island for Cantonese cuisine. It is also perhaps one of the more theatrical Chinese restaurants around, with Chef Eric Neo always putting on a show with dishes surrounded by the likes of dry ice and a whole suckling pig which is the talk of the town.

It was thus a bit surprising to me that despite this winning formula, the venue underwent a makeover recently. If you visit Man Fu Yuan nowadays, you’ll notice that the tablecloth is gone and this is replaced with dark wooden tables and fine cutlery that won’t look out of place in Ash & Elm just downstairs.

Ash & Elm in Intercontinental Singapore

April 15, 2016 by Bino 2 Comments

Ash and Elm is the newest dining concept to open at the Intercontinental Singapore. Taking over what was once Olive Tree, the new restaurant is a stylish venue that easily transitions itself from hearty breakfast buffets to sumptuous multi-course meals for lunch and dinner. Entering the restaurant for the first time, I immediately knew I was in for a treat when I saw that Ash and Elm has its own charcuterie room. I was also pleasantly surprised when the restaurant staff invited me over to inspect the kitchen which was deliberately built for diners to come in and inspect.

Hotel Review: Intercontinental Singapore

March 22, 2016 by Bino 3 Comments

Intercontinental Singapore is a luxury hotel located in the lively Bugis area of Singapore. Being very much part of the city’s central core, famous attractions such as Arab Street and the civic district are within walking distance while shopping destinations such as Suntec City, Raffles City, Bugis Junction and Haji Lane are just a hop and a skip away. The hotel was built in 1995 incorporating the architectural styles of the shophouses in the area. While the original shophouses no longer exist, the hotel has a distinct Peranakan theme throughout its halls and even in the rooms. This was further enhanced over the last two years when the property underwent a renovation. The Peranakan theme remains but it’s now compounded by a contemporary vibe. I recently checked out the Intercontinental Singapore through a staycation to find out exactly how the property has changed.

If you’re into patterns, this property has plenty to keep you busy. Tiled columns, snazzy carpeting and even the subtle wallpaper designs all bring the property’s Peranakan – classical design concept into life.
