New Menu at Man Fu Yuan 满福苑 (2019) – InterContinental Singapore

June 5, 2019 by Bino Leave a Comment

Man Fu Yuan, the Chinese restaurant in InterContinental Singapore, has launched a new menu in 2019 as it onboards a new Executive Sous Chef – Aaron Tan. Chef Aaron is now the main chef overseeing the culinary activities in Man Fu Yuan as Chef Eric Neo is now the Executive Chef of the entire hotel. With the new Executive Sous Chef, Man Fu Yuan has 13 new dishes in the menu in addition to the perennial favorites. I was recently invited over by the InterContinental Singapore team to sample the new items in Man Fu Yuan.

Il Cielo at Hilton Singapore – New Spring Menu (2019)

March 24, 2019 by Bino Leave a Comment

Il Cielo, the rooftop Italian restaurant at Hilton Singapore, celebrates its 9th anniversary this March by launching the first of a series of seasonal menus. Aimed to be refreshed every two months, the set menus showcase the finest seasonal produce in Japan and Italy. Resident Chef Yohhei Sasaki transforms these ingredients into  authentic Italian dishes that come with his trademark Japanese sensibilities.

I was recently invited to Il Cielo to check out the first of their seasonal menus. For this period, Chef Sasaki has gathered the likes of Toyama-Japan firefly squid, Kyoto amadai fish, fresh spring Japanese cabbages, Italian white asparagus and premium Japanese Shorthorn Wagyu beef for the set menus which range from 4 to 7 courses.

Lunch Buffet at Afternoon Tea Prices – D9 High Tea Buffet at Hilton Singapore

February 19, 2019 by Bino Leave a Comment

Hilton Singapore has launched a high tea buffet that is sure to please those looking for an upmarket dining option that is easy on the wallet. Unlike the norm when it comes to these light afternoon meals, the high tea buffet here, which is held at D9 Cakery, starts early from 12 noon and ends at 3PM. Technically, this is a buffet that you can have for lunch and even the food is consistent with that proposition. The buffet spread is noticeably heavier than the typical afternoon tea that most folks are accustomed to. With 6 live stations ranging from roast meat to Japanese and even a generously filled cold seafood counter, this is quite possibly the most value-for-money afternoon tea buffet in Singapore.

Food Review: Preludio – Highly Recommended Concept Restaurant at Frasers Tower Singapore

January 31, 2019 by Bino Leave a Comment

Preludio is that rare example of a restaurant that wows you not only in terms of flair and artistic concept but also with taste. A feast for the eyes and the taste bud, the food here is defined as author’s cuisine – a movement that came from Spain. It is known for its boundless take on dining, where the chef can conjur up his own creativity in preparing the dishes.

In Preludio, that author is none other than Chef-owner Fernando Arevalo. Hailing from Colombia, he has previously worked in Artemis Grill (another one of my favorites!). Preludio debuted in November with a palpable black and white theme as its first chapter.

I tried out Preludio a couple of days ago and saw for myself how seriously this black and white concept is taken into account. It permeates almost every element of the dining experience, from the art work gracing the walls to the uniform of the staff. It made me think to myself as well how monochromatic food could possibly be appetizing. Tasting is believing.

NEW: Subrosa Private Dining – East Meets West at Jalan Besar Singapore

January 30, 2019 by Bino Leave a Comment

Subrosa Private Dining at Jalan Besar presents a different facet to the new food trend that is engulfing Singapore at this moment. While dining at someone’s home is all the craze these days, Subrosa allows for the same exclusive and private experience (the chef here also comes with a list of credentials) but it does so while still maintaining itself as a restaurant – complete with the attentive service that comes with it – at the end of the day.

Coming here is as much about the privacy as the experience or name implies. Subrosa means “under the rose” and is a term that indicates confidentiality. Its location in a nondescript shophouse in Jalan Besar is not the usual place for a fine dining concept while the glazed glass entrance offers little clues of what lies within.

The venue is helmed by Chef Steven Snowdon who hails from the UK. He has cooked for a distinguished audience including the British Royal Family. His work experience includes various hotels and Michelin restaurants. Along with Chef Steve, Chef Francis Lee acts as the venue’s consulting chef. He has helped infuse Asian elements into the dishes here.

Review: 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung – Reimagined Asian Flavours at The Capitol Kempinski Singapore

December 19, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

15 Stamford by Alvin Leung has officially opened at The Capitol Kempinski Singapore. Helmed by the so-called “demon chef” Alvin Leung who holds 3 Michelin stars for his Bo Innovation restaurant in Hong Kong, the venue pays tribute to various Asian cuisines such as those from Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

15 stamford interiors

The menu at 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung consists of Asian favorites but with creative twists through Chef Leung’s contemporary touch. I had the opportunity to visit the restaurant one day before it opened and I must say I was impressed.
