Tamarind Hill Singapore – Upscale Thai Food in Leafy Labrador Park Setting

November 13, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

Perched on a hill in leafy Labrador Park, the Thai restaurant Tamarind Hill feels like a world away from the density of Singapore. Along with the nearby boutique hotel Villa Samadhi, this dining and lodging complex is part of Samadhi Retreats and indeed being here – even if you don’t stay overnight – is akin to being in a retreat. There’s little of the noise or endless chatter here that one would come to expect when dining in a restaurant. The presence of both outdoor and indoor seating areas means that it’s usually possible to find a cozy and intimate area to dine. I was given a welcome drink as I entered as well as the ala carte menu. The menu at Tamarind Hill ticks the right boxes where an upscale Thai restaurant is concerned with the usual suspects such as curry, tom yum and fish cakes going alongside some pleasant surprises such as wagyu beef in the meat section.

Review: Telok Ayer Arts Club – Restaurant cum Gallery in the CBD

October 27, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

Telok Ayer Arts Club opened roughly a month ago in McCallum Street as a multi-concept venue by The Supermarket Company. More than just a restaurant, the venue combines food and drink, art and music in an accessible space.

The venue is curated by individuals from the creative scene with experts for the music and visual arts. From time to time, you can even glance upon paintings which are meant to suit the playlist and to an extent, the food menu.

Sri Lankan Crabs at Wan Hao, Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza (2018)

October 16, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

It is almost hairy crab season again and this year, Wan Hao at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza is doing something different by offering Sri Lankan crabs instead. Known for their huge size and juicy meat, it’s a good year-round alternative to the seasonal and oftentimes, harder to eat hairy crabs that diners tend to prize.

Wan Hao’s crab promotion runs from now until 30th November 2018 and range from starters to mains. I headed down to the restaurant recently to check it out.

Buffet at Beach Road Kitchen, JW Marriott Singapore South Beach

September 2, 2018 by Bino 2 Comments

Beach Road Kitchen, the all-day dining restaurant of JW Marriott Singapore, does not immediately occur as a hotel dining concept. The venue has its own entrance off the restaurant row in South Beach, with an elegant facade and floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal just what’s inside. This is where hotel guests have their breakfast. Outside of these hours, Beach Road Kitchen attracts a steadily growing clientele made up mostly of residents looking for the latest buffet concepts.

Recently during my stay at the JW Marriott Singapore, I got to check out exactly what Beach Road Kitchen has to offer. A sign by the entrance shows the prices for different timings and at first, it may seem like another one of those usual hotel buffets. However, after having my dinner there, I must say that there are quite a number of differentiating factors here compared to other buffets in Singapore.

Ding Dong – Modern Southeast Asian Flavors in Amoy Street

August 22, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

Ding Dong which is now located in Amoy Street has been in Singapore’s restaurant scene for around 5 years now if you count its debut back in Ann Siang. The venue is unique in the sense that it was one of the first to showcase Mod-Asian flavors with dishes coming from all over Southeast Asia. I do come here from time to time as well as the place is near my office and they do have some value-for-money lunch sets that do well for business meetings. Recently, Ding Dong’s menu underwent a revamp with 18 new dishes in its ala carte menu. I went back to Ding Dong again, this time for dinner to check out the novel offerings.

Chef’s Table at Shang Palace in Shangri-la Hotel Singapore By Chef Mok Kit Keung

August 18, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

Shang Palace at Shangri-la Singapore has launched its The Chef’s Table, a monthly affair where fans of the restaurant and of Cantonese cuisine can come check out one-of-a-kind culinary creations by Chef Mok Kit Keung who has helmed Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong in the past. I recently attended the very first The Chef’s Table event held on the 15th of August. As is the intention of all The Chef’s Table events, the dinner was held in Shang’s Palace private dining room. The meal consists of six-courses – with each session comprising different dishes based on seasonal produce.
