Kwee Zeen at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort – A Magnifique Sunday Champagne Brunch

August 30, 2016 by Bino 1 Comment

With lush vegetation and a setting that overlooks the sea, there is probably no better venue to hold a Sunday champagne brunch in Singapore than in the relaxing island of Sentosa. Kwee Zeen, the all-day dining restaurant at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort, proudly offers a Sunday brunch that not only makes you forget about the hustle and bustle of city life, but is also family-friendly.

The Kwee Zeen brunch experience starts a bit later than most – at around 12:30pm. But it also ends later – at 3:30pm! If you are a seafood or meat lover, there are plenty to keep you wanting. The seafood variety here is truly impressive.

The Clifford Pier at Fullerton Bay Hotel: Peranakan Delights By Chef Philip Chia

August 23, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

The Clifford Pier at Fullerton Bay Hotel is running a Peranakan cuisine promotion with dishes prepared by renowned chef and author, Philip Chia. For the stunning bayside location and  elegant setting, prices are reasonable and start at $18 (up to $26) inclusive of rice and a small side of achar. As of this writing, there is only a little over a week left for this promotion so hurry if you are looking for a quick Peranakan fix in the heart of the city.

Diners are treated to a variety of options that include the most common Peranakan dishes such as Ayam Buah Keluak to a most curious Ayam Pedas Siam, with its subtle Thai touches.

Route 88 Set Menu at SKIRT at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove

August 22, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

SKIRT at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove has launched a new Route 88 menu incorporating some of the most popular dishes of the restaurant at a more reasonable price ($88++ for three courses, available Monday to Thursday). The steakhouse serves some pretty mean steaks and I still have fond memories from my previous time there earlier this year (check out my previous review of SKIRT at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove). We all know that a good steak in Singapore easily costs north of $80++ so this set meal actually offers some good value for those wishing to indulge in some good meat without having to break the bank.

The set menu allows diners to choose a starter, a main and a dessert. If you can’t decide what to order in SKIRT’s ala carte menu, Route 88 helps to narrow down your choices.

Dimsum Brunch at Cherry Garden (Mandarin Oriental Singapore)

August 14, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

I stepped into Cherry Garden in Mandarin Oriental Singapore for its weekend dimsum brunch on a rather quiet Saturday morning. The restaurant actually starts its first seating quite early – at 11am – so the timing suits early risers like myself. I had eaten a couple of times at Cherry Garden previously but never tried the dimsum brunch before. Being a dimsum lover, I naturally wanted to give it a try. The ala carte set up similar to the likes of Hai Tien Lo and Jade piqued my interest – with the price at SGD 68++ being somewhere in the middle of Yan Ting’s SGD 108++ and Jade’s SGD 39++ where the spectrum of hotel dimsum brunches are concerned.

Like its other competitors in the 5-star category, Cherry Garden’s dimsum brunch is not merely a showcase of unlimited dumplings and spring rolls. There are also a variety of hot dishes to try and I managed to check out both the lighter snacks and heavier dishes during my dining experience there.

Flavours of Singapore Dinner Buffet at The Line in Shangri-La Singapore

August 1, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

The Line at Shangri-La Singapore has recently enhanced their dinner buffet offerings in time for Singapore’s 51st National Day. Traditional hawker food takes center stage with items such as Singapore Laksa, Oyster Omelette, Satay and Nasi Lemak as well as creative interpretations of evergreen hawker fare like Chicken Rice Maki Roll and Chili Crab Brioche lining the buffet spread. I distinctly remember dining at The Line exactly a year ago when I sampled the Golden Jubilee buffet which also had a number of unique snippets of Singapore dishes. While the theme last year was based on the culinary team’s vision of the future of Singaporean cuisine, this year’s theme puts a strong emphasis on the past with dishes that have long disappeared from Singapore’s food courts and bakeries.

I was amazed to find The Line almost full despite it being a Tuesday evening. As usual, I started by going to the Japanese section. While it had all the typical sashimi and maki, I was astounded by the Chicken Rice Maki Roll. At first glance it looks like your typical sushi roll but look closely and instead of seaweed, you’ll see chicken skin lining the rice.

Surf & Turf Tuesday Dinner Buffet at Edge in Pan Pacific Singapore

July 23, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

Edge at Pan Pacific Singapore has recently revamped their Tuesday dinner buffets, replacing the Cuts @ Edge promotion that ran on Tuesday nights. Diners can now get the best of both seafood and meat with the new Surf & Turf buffet, a carefully curated offering that punches above its weight in terms of variety for a weekday hotel dinner buffet.

I was recently invited for a tasting session to check out exactly what the Surf & Turf buffet spread had to offer. I was immediately thrown off by what I saw. Buckets of fresh prawns, clams, scallops and Alaskan crab greeted me as I entered Edge. For a minute there, I thought that I had stepped into another Sunday brunch due to the premium seafood available.

Artemis Grill – New Bar Menu at Singapore Rooftop Bar and Grill

July 20, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

Artemis Grill, the contemporary Mediterranean rooftop grill in the heart of Singapore’s Raffles Place has recently revamped their bar menu. With new bar manager Rico Deang joining recently from CUT by Wolfgang Puck, the new cocktail menu prominently features a fine mix of European and tropical-themed cocktails. Ingredients such as passion fruit and kaffir lime leaves are used alongside rosemary and citric-based components. Last week, I was invited for the media launch of the new menu and aside from the new drinks, I also got to sample Artemis’ small bites.

While Artemis is not the first rooftop bar that I’ve been to in Singapore, I was pleased to note that the bar was well-ventilated given its outdoor setting. One surprisingly gets the feeling of being in an air-conditioned area which contrasts with the heat and humidity I experience elsewhere.

Update: I returned to Artemis Bar & Grill to check out their dinner menu. You can read my review here.
