Hotel Staycation Review: Mandarin Oriental Singapore – One of the Best Hotel Swimming Pools in Singapore

December 14, 2021 by Bino 1 Comment

Mandarin Oriental Singapore ranks among my most frequently stayed hotels in Singapore. Time and time again, the property launches creatively packaged staycation deals that defines what it means to be “a tourist in your own city.” Coupled with the hotel’s renowned hospitality and level of luxury, their staycation packages tend to come with inclusions that appeal to a wide demographic – whether it be families, couples or friends enjoying a weekend getaway.

This review is an amalgamation of my various staycations at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore. There are only so many ways one can do a package out of a hotel staycation but Mandarin Oriental Singapore seems to nail it every time and I always look forward to my stays here.

The hotel was built in the 1980s with the design coming from John Portman. Entering the lobby, one gets mesmerized by the cavernous atrium. As the brand name suggests, the decor is very much in keeping with the chain – think lots of Chinese figurines, dark and warm tones as well as long chandeliers.

Hotel Staycation Review: Mandarin Oriental Singapore (Marina Bay Suite) – Truly Unblocked Marina Bay Views

April 5, 2020 by Bino 1 Comment

With a hard-to-beat Marina Bay location, the Mandarin Oriental Singapore is one of the most luxurious hotels in the city for staycations. The brand is well-known for delivering Asian sensibilities in its product – from the physical appearance of the rooms and facilities down to the detailed-oriented service standards of the staff. I stayed in the flagship Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong previously and was bowled over by the interactions I had with the staff. It truly was one of my most memorable hotel stays and had me yearning to experience more of the Mandarin Oriental proposition.

The Singapore property has a relatively modest lobby which belies the majestic atrium that you see from Level 4 onwards. The hotel was built in 1987 and was designed by John Portman (who also designed the nearby PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay). Upon check-in, I was informed by reception that the hotel was running full and they would upgrade me instead to a Marina Bay Suite.

Dimsum Brunch at Cherry Garden (Mandarin Oriental Singapore)

August 14, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

I stepped into Cherry Garden in Mandarin Oriental Singapore for its weekend dimsum brunch on a rather quiet Saturday morning. The restaurant actually starts its first seating quite early – at 11am – so the timing suits early risers like myself. I had eaten a couple of times at Cherry Garden previously but never tried the dimsum brunch before. Being a dimsum lover, I naturally wanted to give it a try. The ala carte set up similar to the likes of Hai Tien Lo and Jade piqued my interest – with the price at SGD 68++ being somewhere in the middle of Yan Ting’s SGD 108++ and Jade’s SGD 39++ where the spectrum of hotel dimsum brunches are concerned.

Like its other competitors in the 5-star category, Cherry Garden’s dimsum brunch is not merely a showcase of unlimited dumplings and spring rolls. There are also a variety of hot dishes to try and I managed to check out both the lighter snacks and heavier dishes during my dining experience there.
