My Experience at Canopy Park (Jewel Changi Airport) Full Guide + Cheap Tickets – Mindboggling Mazes, Height Defying Walking Nets & More

December 1, 2021 by Bino 2 Comments

Canopy Park opened at Jewel Changi Airport on the 10th June 2019 and has received plenty of media coverage and public interest that I was quite curious to check it out during a preview organized by the Changi Airport folks along with the Changi Experience Studio. Images of a large net suspended over the higher levels of Jewel Changi Airport seemed to capture the public’s imagination, adding to the overall allure of the mixed-use development.

BOOK DISCOUNTED TICKETS TO CANOPY PARK AT JEWEL CHANGI AIRPORT HERE

If you are thinking of visiting Canopy Park and are wondering how the attractions really are like and whether they are worth your money, hopefully this guide can present a well-balanced view of the various facilities and attractions within this 14,000 square meter theme park.

CHECK OUT MY REVIEW OF CHANGI EXPERIENCE STUDIO HERE

First of all, you have to know that entrance fees to the various attractions don’t exactly come cheap. While the standalone ticket that allows you to enter the Canopy Park alone is priced at a very reasonable S$4.50 for residents / S$5 for non-residents, the ticketed areas require top-ups between S$6 to S$15 per person per attraction while bundled tickets for the entire Canopy Park experience can go as high as S$54 per adult / S$39 per child. If you go for the whole thing, you may find Canopy Park to be the second most expensive theme park in Singapore, behind Universal Studios Singapore but well-above the Night or River Safaris or the various attractions in Sentosa.

Update: Given the current situation, cheaper bundle tickets are now available for Canopy Park. Read until the end for pricing details on the new bundles!

Here is a rundown of the various attractions at Jewel Changi Airport’s Canopy Park:

Free iRobot Roomba 692 Robot Vacuum or S$330 Cash for New HSBC Credit Card Applications

December 1, 2021 by Bino Leave a Comment

There is currently a very enticing promotion with Singsaver this month where you can receive a brand new iRobot Roomba 692 Robot Vacuum (worth S$818) or S$330 cash via Paynow. New HSBC credit cardholders (those who have not held an HSBC card in the past 12 months) who apply for a credit card and get approved can choose to receive one of the abovementioned gifts. Existing HSBC cardholders will get S$60. Do note that the cash amounts stated are inclusive of the bonus S$30 for applications done with MyInfo via Singpass. This promotion is valid if you sign up until 20th October 2021 11:59pm.

Annual fee is waived for the first year for all the cards listed below. HSBC usually waives the annual fee for succeeding years as long as you actively use the card but if not, you can always cancel to avoid paying the annual fee. You can even cancel the credit card after receiving the robot vacuum cleaner or cash reward if you wish.

Note that this offer is valid only if you apply via the below exclusive links (direct application with HSBC doesn’t count for the promotion). Why is that so? Singsaver actually acts as an aggregator and affiliate partner for HSBC cards and from time to time, Singsaver and HSBC may jointly fund the gift in order to split the marketing expense between them.

After clicking submit on your credit card application, make sure to take note of your Application Reference Number. You will have to fill out a redemption form (automatically sent to your email once you make a card application) in order to be registered.

Once your card is approved, remember to spend at least S$500 (can be in multiple transactions) within 30 days of receiving your card in order to receive the iRobot Roomba 692 robot vacuum or cash reward. You will get an email within 60 to 90 days with instructions on how to claim your gift.

Here are the HSBC cards that qualify for the promotion:

Fuss-Free Christmas Takeaway and Delivery Set Meals & Bundles 2021

November 27, 2021 by Bino Leave a Comment

For a worry-free Christmas holiday without having to think of which specific dishes to cook or coming up with a long list of items to order, you can also consider ordering pre-packaged festive bundles and set meals instead. You can have them delivered to your home or you can opt to self-collect if you wish. Many of the sets here run the whole range of a good festive meal – from starters to hearty mains and even desserts and drinks.

Without further ado, here are some of my recommendations (not arranged in any particular order):

Review: NAEUM – Modern Korean Restaurant by Chef Louis Han

November 23, 2021 by Bino Leave a Comment

In a street where Korean restaurants abound, NAE:UM stands out with its modern interpretation of the Northeast Asian cuisine. Opened only in mid-2021, it has become quite popular that it’s difficult to book a table if your intention is to dine a week or even a month later – the waiting time is now about 2 months! Despite two heightened alerts and dining restrictions, the interest in the modern Korean restaurant continues unabated.

From its debut menu, the restaurant has now moved to its second episode featuring autumn and winter ingredients. Chef Louis Han, who hails from Seoul, helms the kitchen here. He was previously at Kimme. NAE:UM is his own venture.

The second episode in NAE:UM’s menu takes on the theme of a mountain lodge. Autumn is a wonderful time to go hiking in Korea, especially with the bright red and yellow foliage that comes with the season. Chef Louis aims to evoke those days spent in his grandmother’s house near Cheonggyesan.

The menu at NAE:UM is rather straightforward. The 6-course menu in this second episode is priced at S$168++. Certain dishes can be added at a supplement and alcoholic/non-alcoholic pairings are available as well.

Fat Cow Launches a Limited Time Menu for its 10th Year Anniversary

November 7, 2021 by Bino Leave a Comment

Fat Cow commemorates its 10th year anniversary by launching a limited time menu available only for dinner until 31st December 2021. The team also takes this opportunity to introduce a brand new beef variation – the rich and savory kobujime wagyu which is offered in this limited time menu as well as a brand new donburi.

Kobujime refers to a heritage curing method where the protein is wrapped with kombu and left to rest. This allows the protein to absorb the umami of seaweed and results in a silky melt-in-your-mouth sensation.

The limited time 10th year Omakase Special at Fat Cow is priced at S$320++ and was formulated by Head Chef Shigeru Kasajima. The menu draws not just from Fat Cow’s heritage but also from the chef’s French fine dining background as some dishes have European techniques employed on them.

The Perfect Malta Itinerary – How to Do the Islands in 3 Days

October 15, 2021 by Bino 4 Comments

Measuring just 316 square kilometers, Malta punches way above its weight in terms of attractions and activities. As a year-round destination, this tiny island nation in the Mediterranean certainly surprised me when I visited. Coming from Singapore, a city state which is actually more than twice the size of Malta, I was taken aback by the abundance of open spaces, distinct villages as well as the number of natural attractions. Malta certainly seems much larger than its actual size suggests.

When I visited Malta, I allotted only 3 days to explore the the two main islands of Malta and Gozo (three if you also count Comino) Knowing the size of the country beforehand, I thought 3 days would actually enable me to fully explore the islands plus allow for a lot of free time. After my first day, it dawned on me just how much there is to see and do that I felt the need to plan the remainder of my trip carefully. Eventually, I was able to cover the interesting points in the islands within 3 days, including some Game of Thrones filming locations, and here I will share with you just how to do the same. If you are in Malta for an extended weekend, this is an itinerary that you can follow.

Review: La Dame de Pic in Raffles Hotel Singapore (2021) Is This French Fine Dining Restaurant Worth Visiting?

October 14, 2021 by Bino Leave a Comment

The guests trickled in one-by-one after I stepped into La Dame de Pic at Raffles Hotel Singapore for lunch in the middle of the week. It has been about a year since I have last dined at the first Asian foray of renowned chef, Anne-Sophie Pic. Two years on and there is still a good crowd to be seen despite coming on an off-peak day. Not only do you get the exquisite classical ambiance of the Raffles Hotel Singapore as a backdrop but you also gain an understanding of Chef Pic’s culinary philosophy without having to fly to France – collectively she has 7 Michelin stars under her belt. The Singapore outlet of La Dame de Pic is helmed by new Chef Francesco di Marzio who has worked with Chef Pic for years before coming to Singapore in early 2021.

To get to La Dame de Pic, enter via the hotel’s grand lobby. However, owing to the current situation, hotel staff members will instead usher you via a side gate. If you are coming on foot or by car, the drop-off point is still via the hotel main entrance.

The Perfect Barcelona Itinerary

October 13, 2021 by Bino 4 Comments

Most visitors deem Barcelona as Spain’s most attention-grabbing city and it’s not hard to see why. Out-of-this-world designs, chic bars, a strong culinary tradition and a plethora of things to see and do all make Barcelona the usual first stop in Spain and for many, the preeminent impression of the country. A closer look however, reveals a complex heritage. For starters, majority of the signs in the city are not even in Spanish. They are in Catalan, the native language of Catalonia, the region where Barcelona is situated. In fact, whenever I made the effort of speaking to the locals in Spanish, I would be replied to in English. People here are staunchly Catalan in identity.

While Madrid is the political center of Spain, Barcelona is its commercial and financial heart. And while most European cities can be classified as renaissance, baroque or medieval, Barcelona appears to be more contemporary. Skyscrapers, which are less common in Europe than they are in America or Asia, are prevalent here in all shapes and forms. And of course, one cannot talk about Barcelona’s cityscape without mentioning Gaudi. Arguably one of the top reasons to visit the city, this architect’s unique vision means that many of Barcelona’s buildings appear like nowhere else in the world, leaving visitors in awe at how one man’s ideas can appear so intense, colorful and bursting with so much life.

This guide shows you how you can visit Barcelona for 2 or 3 days.
