New York For First-Timers : Should You Get the CityPASS?

November 9, 2016 by Bino 1 Comment

As the preeminent city of the USA and a world leading center of culture, business and politics; there is no other place quite like New York City. I visited the Big Apple for four days a couple of months ago and thought I had barely scratched the surface. There are just too many things to see and do there that it’s hard to figure out where to start.

As it was my first time to visit the city and I only had a few days to spare, I got myself a New York CityPASS as it offered access to the very sights I wanted to visit – at a fraction of the cost of buying them separately. I also did not want my trip to turn out to be a check list of things to see and do and the six attractions that come with the said pass were manageable and I could spend the rest of my time doing other things.

11 Countries Requiring a Visa That Singaporean Travelers Should Visit

November 8, 2016 by Bino 1 Comment

A Singapore passport allows you to travel far and freely to many countries around the world without requiring a visa. According to the Henley visa restriction index, Singapore is ranked 5th in the world in terms of travel freedom – tied with Japan in Asia. Indeed, this is a great passport to have especially for those with a serious case of wanderlust, more so for those people who have the ambitious quest to visit every country in the world.

Despite this, there are a number of countries where a visa is still required before a Singaporean can visit. Whether you’re a casual holiday-goer or a travel extremist, find out which of them should be in your bucket list here:

Battambang: The Charming City You Skipped in Cambodia

October 26, 2016 by Bino Leave a Comment

For most travelers, a trip to Cambodia would involve an expedition into the Angkor temples. If there is additional time, an excursion to the capital, Phnom Penh, may be scheduled before leaving the country. Tourism in Cambodia may have grown exponentially in the last decade but outside the major attractions, tourists are surprisingly sparse. During my latest visit to Cambodia, I ventured to the town of Battambang to get a glimpse of local life that’s not yet overrun with tourism. Traditionally the second largest city in the country, it has in recent years been looked upon by tourists who wish to escape the hordes found in Cambodia’s more happening cities.

Day Trip to Phetchaburi From Bangkok – Of Summer Palaces & Spectacular Caves

July 12, 2016 by Bino 5 Comments

Just slightly over 2 hours drive from Bangkok, the coastal province of Phetchaburi makes for an underrated day trip from the Thai capital. Its location, by the northern end of the Malay peninsula and facing the Gulf of Thailand, gives visitors the best of both worlds. It is as easy to find a nice beach for swimming or a jungle canopy to hike through as it is to marvel at centuries-old hilltop palaces and impressive temple ruins. Its capital, which also goes by the name Phetchaburi, doesn’t have a shortage of impressive buildings that belie its small population.

10 Lviv Tourist Attractions You Have to Visit — A Travel Guide

May 30, 2016 by Bino 2 Comments

If you fancy European fairytale towns with cobblestone streets, charming city squares and Baroque architecture, Lviv in Western Ukraine should be on your list. A UNESCO World Heritage Site located near Ukraine’s border with Poland, the city has changed hands several times over the centuries. It’s also been known under the following names: Lwow, Lvov, Lemberg and Leopolis reflecting Polish, Austro-Hungarian and Russian influences over the years.

I visited some weeks back and I must say the environment reminded me of more popular destinations such as Prague or Krakow except that Lviv has a more authentic feel (think: buildings in varying states of disrepair, fewer touts and lack of people dressed up in tacky medieval costumes). If your impression of Ukraine is of a country with freezing weather year-round and gray, Soviet buildings; Lviv will surely change that.

Kiev : Why You Should Visit the Underrated & Cool Capital of Ukraine

May 21, 2016 by Bino 26 Comments

Introduction to Kiev

Before there was Moscow or St. Petersburg, there was Kiev. As the cradle of East Slavic civilization, Kiev today serves as the capital of Ukraine and is a pleasant city with plenty of parks, golden domes as well as some cool Soviet monuments. Because of the war in the east and the recent loss of Crimea, many people make the hasty generalization that Ukraine is not safe to visit.

They couldn’t be more wrong.
