The NEW DBS Multiplier Account – What You Need to Know

November 5, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

DBS has revamped its Multiplier Account yet again, In the latest set of changes in 2017, DBS has essentially lowered the transaction tiers needed to get the high interest. In the past, the DBS Multiplier Account was notable for being the only contingent high interest savings account in Singapore to offer the higher interest via total monthly transaction size for the categories of salary credit, card spend, investments, insurance and loans. The new DBS Multiplier is therefore more accessible in the sense that minimum transaction size is now only S$2,000 to earn the higher interest. But how does it now compare versus its peers in the contingent high interest savings account space such as the OCBC 360, Maybank Saveup or Citibank Maxigain? Let us take a closer look.

Guide to Singapore Hotel Christmas Buffets, Brunches and Dinners – 2017 Edition

November 4, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

There are still 51 days until Christmas as of this writing but hotels across Singapore have been quietly preparing their festive offers for 2017. If you are already wondering where to bring your clients, family and friends for that Christmas buffet, brunch or dinner; this mini-guide across some of the most well-known hotels in Singapore offers a snapshot of what’s on offer for the yuletide season this year.

Editor’s Note: For the 2018 list, please check the compilation HERE

This coming festive season will see a lot of creative flavors – from the likes of Tandoori and Laksa Turkey interspersed with perennial favorites such as Goodwood Park Hotel’s Slow-Roasted Iberico Pork Belly (in my opinion, the best Christmas dish to have this year) and haute dining such as the special set menus from Brasserie les Saveurs at St. Regis Singapore and La Dolce Vita at Mandarin Oriental Singapore. Happy feasting!

If you are planning a staycation over the holidays, you can also check out this extensive list of Singapore hotel reviews HERE.

Review: The Pier Business Class Lounge by Cathay Pacific – Hong Kong International Airport

October 30, 2017 by Bino 4 Comments

Cathay Pacific’s The Pier – the airline’s flagship business class lounge in Hong Kong International Airport – has got to be the one of the most varied airport lounges in the world. Measuring an  unbelievable 3,306 square meters and comprising multiple themed zones, The Pier functions more as a destination rather than just a place to rest and grab a quick bite before proceeding to one’s next flight.

While I was transiting in Hong Kong during my trip from Osaka to Singapore, I managed to check out The Pier. I had something like 2 hours of transit time and initially, I thought that was more than enough to have a good grasp of the lounge. By the end of my transit, I felt like I only managed to scratch the surface of what The Pier has to offer. If you are flying from Hong Kong in Cathay Pacific business class, I strongly suggest coming at least 3 hours before your flight in order to fully enjoy this exceptional lounge.

The Pier Business Class Lounge is located near Gate 65. If you are flying regionally, you might have to walk a bit to get here. The Wing, another Cathay Pacific lounge located near Gate 1, is nearer for flights to Southeast Asia, Japan, Taiwan, etc but I assure you the walk to The Pier is definitely worth it.

New Dimsum Weekend Experience at Jade, Fullerton Hotel Singapore

October 29, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Jade at Fullerton Hotel Singapore has revamped its popular dimsum brunch buffet. Instead of having two seatings, the dimsum experience during weekends will now consist of just one seating, lasting from 12 noon until 3pm. The format has also changed and guests can now choose between three different set menus with 5 to 6 courses each. There is also an option now to order from a more concentrated ala carte menu of mains, including my favorite Simmered Egg Noodles with Boston Lobster and X.O. Chilli Sauce. Recently, I was invited to Jade to check out the revamped weekend dimsum experience.

The new set menus are:

  • Purple Finch (S$68) – 5 courses
  • Paradise Flycatcher (S$88) – 5 courses
  • Royal Peacock (S$108) – 6 courses

You can view the full dimsum menu details HERE.

Review: Plaza Premium Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport

October 22, 2017 by Bino 1 Comment

The Plaza Premium Lounge at the Hong Kong International Airport is one of the flagship lounges of the Plaza Premium Network. The lounge is open to Priority Pass holders and while the Priority Pass website cites two lounges at Terminal 1, there are technically three of the group’s lounges in the Hong Kong Airport. While most people scurry to the “main” lounge at the East Hall near Gate 1, not many know that there is actually an adjacent lounge to the right with its own entrance – an annex with newer and nicer furnishings as well as the same type of food as in the main lounge.

While I was transiting in Hong Kong International Airport for a flight out to Osaka (KIX), I chanced upon this hidden “annex.” Entering it for the first time, I could see right away how much better the interiors are. The seating spaces are mostly decked in dark leather which a great alternative to the sometimes musty and furry corduroy furnishings next door.

Morton’s The Steakhouse – New Seasonal Menu

Morton’s The Steakhouse just introduced a couple of new items to line their menu this season. The seven items consist of some totally new dishes alongside old favorites that are making a return after being off-menu for a couple of years. Last week, I was invited over to Morton’s to sample some of these items – I have to say I was quite impressed!
