How To Earn Up to 5 Skywards Miles Per $1 With Mileslife

November 21, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

I first wrote about Mileslife when it made its debut here in Singapore. In the few months since then, their list of dining and lifestyle merchants has expanded and now include some of the most well-known restaurants in Singapore. One of the earliest merchants to accept Mileslife was Crystal Jade – probably the most recognizable Chinese restaurant chain in Singapore with dozens of branches and sub-brands within the country. I recently paid them a visit with the intention of using Mileslife as it adds Emirates Skywards as its newest frequent flyer programme in its list of partners.

For every $1 spent, members will earn up to 5 Skywards Miles and an additional bonus based on their Emirates Skywards tier. Emirates Skywards Silver members earn 25% bonus Miles on every purchase, Gold members earn 50% bonus Miles while Platinum members earn 75% bonus Miles. The tiered bonus is unique to the Emirates Skywards programme.

There is also an ongoing promotion which allows Mileslife users to earn triple  Skywards Miles on all spends until 30 November 2017 when selecting Emirates Skywards as their frequent flyer programme (FFP) of choice.

Hotel Review: The Athenee Bangkok – Elegant With a Colonial Touch

November 19, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

The Athenee Bangkok reopened recently after joining the Luxury Collection, a sub-brand of independent hotels under SPG. Previously, the hotel was known as Plaza Athenee, a Royal Le Meridien hotel that was also under SPG. The chain has a strong presence in Bangkok with two Luxury Collection hotels, the other one being Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.

Luxury Collection hotels tend to have a unique story in order to qualify for the sub-brand. That was the case with The Andaman Langkawi where I stayed some months back and its strong focus on coral preservation. The Athenee Bangkok on the other hand, prides itself as the site of a princess’ palace. This royal heritage explains the look of the property. It’s akin to the late 19th century/early 20th century Thai interpretation of western sensibilities (other buildings carrying the same architecture can be seen in places like Phetchaburi or the old Parliament Building in downtown Bangkok).

Review: Coral Executive Lounge in Don Mueang Airport Bangkok (DMK)

November 14, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

It used to be the case that Bangkok’s alternative international airport, Don Mueang (DMK) offered not a single lounge for passengers. As the airport served as the base of mainly budget carriers such as AirAsia, there was little in the way of premium offerings in the international terminal. This changed recently with the opening of the Coral Executive Lounge in Don Mueang Airport. The lounge provider – The Coral – is not new to providing airport lounge services. Aside from the one in Don Mueang, they also have lounges in Phuket, Udon Thani and Chiang Mai, among others.

Visiting Niagara Falls From the Canadian Side

November 13, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

If you want to visit the iconic Niagara Falls, you have a choice of countries to stay in. The Falls straddle both Canada and the USA. Both sides are well-equipped in terms of tourist infrastructure and have wonderful places like the Niagara Falls Marriott to stay in, so whichever you choose is entirely up to you. This post deals with the Canadian side and the attractions that most tourists visit while traveling to Niagara Falls.

Emirates Launches NEW First Class Suites, Business Class and Economy Class on Refurbished Boeing 777 Aircraft

November 12, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

It’s been a notable month for airline product announcements. Emirates just unveiled its refurbished cabin for its fleet of Boeing 777s (the airline is currently the largest operator of 777s) including the much-awaited First Class Suites. So far, this will be the only aircraft type in Emirates to have a suite type product, a departure from other airlines where the suites are usually placed in the A380 – notably Singapore Airlines Suites.

Maggie Joan’s – New Menu in the Backstreets of Amoy

November 12, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Amoy Street has become synonymous with hip restaurants these days and unknown to many, the back alley which is sandwiched between Amoy and Club Street – Gemmill Lane – has been housing a number of “underground” restaurants for a couple of years now. One of the alley’s earliest resident – Maggie Joan’s – turns two this year and has launched a revamped menu. This serves to match a redefined look that is marked by a private dining room with three chandeliers.  Overall, the new look adds another level of quirkiness to a restaurant that is already known for being unconventional. For instance, the venue deliberately places its entrance in a nondescript passageway, going against conventional business sensibilities.

Recently, I headed down to Maggie Joan’s to try the new menu. Although I work nearby and often go to Amoy Street for lunch, this was actually my first time to have a meal at Gemmill Lane. The entrance to Maggie Joan’s is purposely discreet. You enter in the sort of door that’s akin to those being used by service crew elsewhere. From that moment on, you’ll know this is not your usual type of dining venue.

8 Off-the-Beaten Path & Unique Attractions in Osaka and Kyoto

November 7, 2017 by Bino 1 Comment

There is no shortage of off-the-beaten path attractions and unusual things to do in Osaka and Kyoto if you know where to look. Like in Japan’s other major cities, you can find just about every kind of diversion that you can think of while traveling here. What most don’t realize is that Osaka and Kyoto’s quirky attractions extend to much more than just the cosplay or maid cafe venues that foreign visitors often find intriguing. The attractions here are both modern and traditional – sometimes even coming straight out of the unexpected and mundane.

I visited the Kansai Region recently as part of a collaboration with Hotels.com to check out these relatively unknown places. If you are looking for something new during your first (or subsequent) trip to Osaka and Kyoto, make sure to include these sights into your itinerary.

Shopback: Better Savings With Travel Deals and Cashback (11.11 Singles Day)

November 6, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

I have previously written about cashback websites, or portals that provide rebates for purchases made via affiliates. The previous one I recommended was geared towards an international (i.e. American) audience. For those living within Southeast Asia, particularly Singapore, you can actually look at Shopback which essentially follows the same mechanism but has merchants closer to home and in many cases, higher rebates.
