Mooncakes in Singapore 2019 Massive Guide & Best Mooncake Boxes This Mid-Autumn Festival

June 22, 2019 by Bino Leave a Comment

https://iwandered.net/mooncakes-singapore-2019/

Mid-autumn festival in 2019 will fall on the 13th of September and once again, hotels in Singapore have prepared some of the most exquisite mooncake flavours for the season. Whether you are looking for snowskin or traditional baked mooncakes, do check out this list which will be updated regularly as with previous years. I will also try my best to highlight some of the most unique mooncake flavours – not just the durian mooncakes but also fruity, tea, acai, bird’s nest and alcohol-infused ones where relevant. I will also highlight which hotels have the best and prettiest mooncake boxes in 2019 for your convenience.

If you are planning to order mooncakes for mid autumn festival, whether in the physical outlets or online, the best credit cards to use this season for promotions are those from DBS/POSB, UOB and Citibank where discounts ranging from 15 to 30% can be had from some merchants. If you are planning to make your purchase online, you may wish to consider getting the Citi Rewards Card where you can earn 4 miles per S$1 for online transactions. Currently, there is also a separate promotion where successful credit card applications with Citibank earn up to S$200 vouchers for new cardholders and S$30 for existing ones while successful card applications with UOB earn a cash reward of S$50.

Raffles Hotel Singapore

Raffles Hotel Singapore Champagne Truffle Snow-Skin Mooncake

Raffles Hotel Singapore Champagne Truffle Snow-Skin Mooncake 2019 (source: the hotel)

Compared to other hotels in Singapore, Raffles Hotel Singapore’s mooncakes seem to be perpetually encased in tin boxes. Yet, they almost always have some of the top-selling mooncakes in Singapore every year. This year, their mooncakes are again encased in a tin box – a lilac one this time. Annual favorites such as the Champagne Truffle Snowskin and Cognac Truffle Snowskin will make another appearance this year alongside the new flavour – Avocado and Mango Yuzu Snowskin. This new creation will see the blend of not just mango and yuzu puree as well as avocados but also the inclusion of flaxseeds.

Dates: 23rd July to 13th September 2019

Prices: From S$76 per 8 pieces (snowskin) / from S$76 per 4 pieces (traditional)

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach

JW Marriott Singapore – Mooncake Box 2019 – (source: the hotel)

The 2019 mooncake collection from JW Marriott Singapore South Beach, which draws inspiration from Madame Fan, captures a wide variety of tastes as the collection has alcohol, fruit, tea, durian, nut and even chendol-based flavours this year. At the center of this comprehensive mooncake collection is Tian Mi Mi, which is derived from one of Madame Fan’s signature cocktails. At the center of this mooncake is a white chocolate shell filled with whiskey, honey and mandarin orange. Another mooncake flavour which I personally liked is the Blueberry baked mooncake which comes with dried blueberry bits. Yummy!

Prices: From S$74 for a box of 4 (traditional); from S$72 for a box of 8 (snowskin)

Dates: 12th July to 13th September

Order: jw.sinjw.festive@marriott.com or +65 6818 1908 (early bird discounts available for Marriott Bonvoy members and DBS/POSB cardholders)

Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza

Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Mooncakes 2019

Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Mooncakes 2019

The mooncakes at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza are known to be handmade in-house which contrasts with some hotels or Chinese restaurants that outsource to external vendors. In my four years of sampling the mooncakes of various hotels, theirs consistently ranks among the top 3 I try each year. A specialty of this hotel is its ham-infused baked mooncakes, often topped with gold flakes. This year, it comes in the form of Golden Red Date Baked Mooncakes with Pistachio, Jambon de Bayonne, Sesame & Salted Egg. This mooncake can be ordered with a luxurious two-tier gold satin box along with a bottle of premium wine.

If you don’t need your mooncakes to come with wine and are okay with a simpler box (the normal box is still a chic, two-tier Chinese cabinet with intricate floral motifs, gold coloured knobs and ring holders), you can check out other interesting flavours such as the White Lotus Seed Paste Baked Mooncake with Jambon de Bayonne, Lavender & Pistachio or the evergreen White Lotus Paste Baked Mooncake with Double Yolk. Among snowskin mooncakes, a new flavour this year is the Raspberry Yoghurt Snowskin Mooncake with Rosemary Honey Praline.

Prices: From S$70 for a box of 4 (traditional); from S$70 for a box of 8 (snowskin)

Dates: 8 August to 13 September 2019

Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore

Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore Mooncakes 2019 (source: the hotel)

The mooncakes at Ritz Carlton are known for coming in practical boxes that can be re-purposed and this year it is no exception. This year’s boxes are presented in either red or gold and can be transformed into a stationery box. Inside the box, you’ll find a magnetic desk calendar, a miniature photo frame, and a three-slot pen holder, while the versatile top box and four side drawers double as storage compartments for all stationery needs.

A new flavour this year in the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore’s mooncake range is the White Lotus Seed Paste with Black Sesame mooncake. This new flavour comes with a nutty fragrance and adds a mild touch of sweetness to the traditional baked lotus seed mooncake.

Prices: From S$78 per box of 4 (traditional); From S$72 per box of 8 (snowskin)

Dates: 8th July to 13th September (online); from 2nd August to 13th September at various retail locations including at the hotel

Shangri La Mooncake 2019

At the centerpiece of the 2019 mooncake collection by Shang Palace is the delectable, limited edition Shangri-La’s Signature Mini Baked Custard With Bird’s Nest which comes in a box of eight. Apart from this, other interesting flavours at Shang Palace include the Kaya Truffle Snowskin Mooncake and the tangy Yuzu Sake Truffle Snowskin.

Fullerton Hotel Singapore mooncakes 2019 (source: the hotel)

This year, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore continues a theme that it picked up last year which is to feature local flavours into its mooncake selection. This year, one can look forward to the likes of the Bandung Snow Skin Mooncake and Ondeh Ondeh Snow Skin Mooncake for that bit of local flair. Favorites from previous years will also make a comeback, including the Pandan with Gula Melaka Snow Skin Mooncake, which is a blend of pandan and caramel-flavoured palm sugar; The Fullerton Golden Custard Mini Mooncakes, a combination of savoury salted egg yolk and sweet custard encased in light butter pastry; and the White Lotus Seed Paste with Egg Yolk Snow Skin Mooncake, which features a smooth salty-sweet white lotus seed paste. Regent Singapore

Regent Singapore mooncakes 2019 (source: the hotel)

Regent Singapore mooncakes 2019 (source: the hotel)

Regent Singapore has quite a creative theme for their mooncake collection this year that is sure to please fans of the hotel’s dining outlets. Each restaurant was required to come up with a flavour of its own so this year, expect contributions from Summer Palace, Basilico, Tea Lounge and even from the award-winning Manhattan Bar. Regent Singapore is probably the only place in Singapore to introduce an Italian-tinged mooncake – the Truffle Carbonara with its combination of truffle and cream cheese – which comes from Basilico. For something more Chinese in taste, the 1 Michelin starred Summer Palace has come up with the Osmanthus Tea and Purple Cauliflower as well as the Sugar-free Pandan Custard snowskins.

*Best* for mooncake box! Regent Singapore’s red mooncake box this year is inspired from the hotel’s own lifts and comes in a hexagonal shape and comes in a clasp. It’s perfect for reusing to store jewelry and other valuables.

Prices: From S$78.10 for a box of 4 (traditional); from S$80.20 for a box of 8 (snowskin)

Dates: Now to 13th September 2019 (Citibank cardmembers enjoy a 15% discount from 8th August to 13th September. In case you don’t have one yet, you can apply for the Citibank card here. Receive up to S$200 worth of vouchers for every successful application.)

Conrad Centennial Singapore

Conrad Singapore mooncakes 2019 (source: the hotel)

One of the highly recommended flavours for traditional baked mooncakes this year is Conrad Centennial Singapore’s Red Bean Paste and Orange Peel which is also suitable for vegetarians. Among snowskin mooncakes, interesting varieties this year include the Blue Pea Flower Cream Cheese as well as the Hazelnut Crunch in White Lotus. Orders of 4 traditional or 8 snowskin mooncakes come in an elegrant 4-tier box that comes in 3 colours and can double as a jewelry chest. In my personal opinion, this is the second best among mooncake boxes this year!

St. Regis Singapore mooncakes 2019

St. Regis Singapore mooncakes 2019

Fans of bubble teas will probably love the Royal Milk Tea Paste with Truffle snowskin which comes with an intense creaminess with every bite. It has Oolong tea truffle as its core. I have also tried St. Regis Singapore’s mooncakes for a number of years now and always look forward to their Black Sesame Paste with Salted Peanut Truffle snowskin which thankfully makes another appearance this year. I love the rich aroma of the black sesame paste which is like a play of the tang yuan (glutinous rice balls) dessert. For durian lovers, St. Regis also makes one of the best durian mooncakes especially with its Pure Mao Shan Wang Durian snowskin.
