I’ll start off by jumping straight to the point – the St. Regis Singapore has got to be the most opulent hotel in Singapore. Situated in Tanglin Road which is just a few minutes away from buzzing Orchard Road, there is an air of grandeur in this Marriott property that prevails in just about every aspect, from the in-house brunches where they serve all-you-can-eat caviar and lobsters to the personalized butler service in every room. Of course, there’s also the extensive collection of sculptures and artwork from the likes of Fernando Botero, Cheong Soo Pieng and Marc Chagall scattered around the property. If there is one thing that this property wants guests to remember, it is undoubtedly the unmatched luxury.
One thing that always impresses me about Marriott – given the SPG legacy – is how effectively this hotel chain segments its various brands. Each has a distinct personality. When I stayed at the W Bangkok last year, the vibe was unmistakably hip and happening so coming to St. Regis Singapore and witnessing its unabashed luxury during my staycation definitely made for a wonderful contrast.
My check-in was quite straightforward. Despite the hotel being at full occupancy during my staycation, I did not have to queue when I checked-in. The front desk staff was attentive enough to search for my Marriott membership even though I forgot my details. In no time, I was given my key cards to my room and off I went.

I stayed at the Executive Deluxe Room which is actually the most basic category room at the St. Regis Singapore. That being said, my room was nothing short of palatial. At 52 square meters, I could count it among the largest basic category, non-suite hotel rooms in Singapore, matched only by the likes of the Ritz Carlton Millenia or Shangri-la Singapore’s Valley Wing. The first thing I noticed about my room is that it had two sofas – one by the window, which by the way was at least 5 meters long, and another one right in front of my bed. The room had all the creature comforts that one would expect from a hotel of this standard – flat-screen TV, a minibar that was filled to the brim, complimentary coffee and tea bags. But what I found notable were the following:
- Multiple master settings for the lights -from the very dim to the very bright
- Bose surround sound system – I could literally see the speakers poking out of the ceiling! The sound quality was astounding!
- Exquisite Jim Thompson cushions
- DVD player and iPod dock
- Selection of current magazines
The bathroom was another exceptional affair. Decked in French marble and filled with no less than 6 mirrors, it was simply the most exquisite bathroom I’ve seen. It may not be the largest hotel bathroom but the opulence was very much prominent with a standalone tub and a TV to ensure guests don’t miss out on their favorite programmes. Like other hotels of this standard, there was a separate shower (including jet showers) and toilet area while a his and hers sink graced opposing sides of the bath area. Toiletries were from St. Regis’ in-house branded, Remede – same as the name of their spa.
Mere minutes after entering my room, my butler rang the doorbell and introduced himself to me. He then guided me to the various features inside the room and most importantly, he also told me the type of services that he can provide that’s included with the stay. Essentially, these are:
- Packing and unpacking of things from luggage
- Pillow selection
- Requesting of various amenities (i.e. the shaving kit is available upon request)
- Ironing of up to 2 pcs of clothing per day
- Preparation of hot tea and coffee with the types of tea and coffee to choose from indicated at a menu right by the minibar
- Guests can also request for hot chocolate which is an off-menu item
After leaving my room that afternoon, I came back that evening to find turndown service having been done on my room. The housekeeping staff was thoughtful enough to leave all the remotes by the bed as well as a pillow menu which had a good variety of pillows to choose from, including Tempur.
As the St. Regis stands at the pinnacle among Starwood brands, the hotel is choc full of facilities, ranging from traditional ones such as a business center located just next to the check-in counters to its signature spa – Remede Spa, which by itself has a loyal following in Singapore. The bulk of the hotel’s facilities is at the 2nd level. The swimming pool, fitness centre, spa and the hotel’s Italian restaurant, LaBrezza, are all located here.
One key amenity not known to many guests at St. Regis is the free use of the wet lounge services inside the Remede Spa. This means that anyone staying at the hotel can go have a soak at the indoor or outdoor jacuzzis even without having to avail of any of the spa’s signature treatments.
That being said, it’s worthwhile to try the spa services here. During my stay, I had the hotel’s 75-minute Perfect Synergy Treatment, a well choreographed procedure since it involves a facial and pedicure happening at the same time with one therapist working on the face and another one on the feet.
The entire procedure was an exercise of refinement from beginning to end. It was my first time to have a pedicure and the therapist, Steve Desobeau, was well-trained in the waterless approach propagated by French podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez. I don’t want to be graphic in describing what they did to my feet but the end result was that my feet ended up looking like new, with callouses and dead skin gone.
Breakfast at Brasserie les Saveurs
One of the things that really excited me about this stay at St. Regis Singapore was the hotel’s f&b offerings. This was not my first time to try the hotel’s restaurants. I remember dining with my family some years back for new year’s at LaBrezza while I have on a couple of occasions dined with colleagues and business partners at Yan Ting which I heavily recommend for their Cantonese cuisine.
A restaurant that I had not tried prior to my stay at St. Regis Singapore is Brasserie les Saveurs. However, I’ve heard much about it from colleagues and friends who were all raving about it especially on their Sunday brunch.
I managed to try Brasserie les Saveurs on two occasions during my stay. First was for breakfast which guests could opt to have either at LaBrezza or at the Brasserie. Second was for the Sunday brunch. I will write more about the latter in a separate entry.
As the hotel is very popular among locals for staycations, the restaurant was quite full during the Sunday morning that I went down for breakfast. It was a good thing I came down early as I later spotted a queue forming when I left. The breakfast concept at St. Regis is essentially similar to other upmarket hotels where there is a buffet and ala carte option.
Though also consisting o multiple buffet stations, the breakfast spread at St. Regis Singapore is not about variety. The emphasis instead is on quality and little details that really stand out. Like in any hotel’s breakfast buffet, one can spot old favorites such as bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles, various types of pastries as well as fresh juices. These were all well and good but personally I enjoyed the soft-style eggs benedict which I looked forward to having each morning.
Among the ala-carte items, one that should not be missed is the lobster omelet. For lovers of fine dining, this breakfast item is hard to top. Not only was the omelet stuffed generously with lobsters but it’s also topped with caviar.
Needless to say, I was most certainly impressed with St. Regis Singapore. The whole experience was topotch! If I were to compare my stay here with my stays at other luxury hotels in Singapore, I would say that St. Regis stands out with respect to the rooms. These were some of the most well-appointed I’ve seen in Singapore. Another aspect where I have to hand it to this property is with respect to their F&B. While it’s practically a must for any decent luxury property in Singapore to have strong food offerings, St. Regis somehow managed to succeed adding in an air of exclusivity by having what is perhaps the most opulent Sunday brunch in the entire country. That, and the Chinese restaurant is fantastic as well.
