Those who miss Jade’s dimsum brunch buffet (which was discontinued in 2017) will be pleased to note that the Chinese restaurant in Fullerton Hotel has rolled out a new family dimsum set menu during weekends which feature 8 appetizers, 1 soup, 2 mains and a dessert for just S$48++ per person. This is a value-for-money option for those dining in a group of 2 or more and is more affordable than the Purple Finch, Paradise Flycatcher and Royal Peacock dimsum menus that the venue also rolled out not long ago.
Recently, I was invited to Fullerton Hotel to check out the value-for-money menu and I must say I ended the meal being full to the brim. Here is what you can expect when you order this menu.
Appetizers
Fresh Prawn Dumpling, Steamed Abalone Siu Mai, Steamed Vegetable Dumplings, Pan-fried Spiced Chili Crab Meat Bun, Deep-fried Taro stuffed with Wild Mushrooms and Truffles, Golden Lobster Dumplings, Deep-fried Prawns with Wasabi Mayonnaise, Roasted Honey-glazed Iberico Pork
Those who have frequented Jade’s dimsum offerings in the past would find many of these dumplings familiar. That being said, certain menu items have undergone minor changes. For example, the Chili Crab Meat Bun is now pan-fried while the Golden Lobster Dumpling seems new to me. In terms of serving size, each diner will receive 1 dumpling of each kind.
Soup
Supreme Seafood Soup with Coral Beancurd
A mainstay in Jade’s menu since the venue was revamped in 2017, the supreme seafood soup nourishes with a huge piece of beancurd meticulously sliced to mimic the tendrils of a coral. This also serves as an intermission before the heavier mains arrive.
Mains
Sliced Grouper in Claypot with Roasted Pork Belly and Spiced Soy Vinaigrette, Sliced Beef Hor Fan
Although no longer presented in a buffet style, the new Family Day Set Menu is sure to fill any discerning tummy especially with a main that takes the form of a claypot dish and hor fun as the customary carbohydrate segment. I thought the grouper plus pork belly combo was rather interesting and unlike what I initially expected, the fish flavor was not drowned out by the pork at all.
Dessert
Warm Creme of Almond, Egg Tarts
We ended the meal with a bowl of Warm Crème of Almond, where “long huang” almonds are blended, boiled and mildly sweetened. You’ll also find some peach gum which carries a similar texture to bird’s nest. The dessert also comes with fresh-out-the-oven egg tarts.
Jade’s new family day set menu is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30AM to 2PM and is priced at S$48++ per person. Minimum 2 persons to dine.
