Lounge Review: The Haven by JetQuay (Changi Airport Singapore Terminal 3)

May 7, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

The Haven by JetQuay is an airport lounge located in Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 3. Unlike the other lounges in Changi Airport which are located within the transit zone, The Haven is actually located in the arrivals hall after exiting the baggage claim section. The said lounge is not affiliated with any airlines and is available to all passengers for a fee. It’s also one of the partner lounges of Priority Pass. While going through Terminal 3 during a recent flight, I decided to check out the said lounge.

Dnata Lounge at Changi Airport Terminal 3 (Singapore) – Good Views, Bad Food

April 24, 2017 by Bino 1 Comment

There is no shortage of lounges in Changi Airport. Aside from the airline-specific ones, the Priority Pass alone grants cardholders access to 11 lounges across 3 terminals. I found myself in Terminal 3 one afternoon with a couple of hours before my flight and rather than wasting my time ogling at luxury watches I know I will never buy, I decided to kill some time at the Dnata Lounge.

Dnata is a relatively new entrant in Changi Airport’s lounge scene and a quick check revealed that the UAE-based company actually specializes in ground handling and airline catering services. Within the Singapore airport, there are two Dnata lounges – one in Terminal 1 and the other in Terminal 3.

Here Is a Compilation of Solutions Being Offered So Far By Airlines Affected By the US Laptop Ban

March 30, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

As I had mentioned in a post last week, there are a couple of carriers affected by the US laptop ban. For everyone’s reference, I thought I’d do up a compilation of solutions the affected airlines have introduced in light of this development. Here they are:

Flight Review: Malaysia Airlines Business Class on the Boeing 737-800

March 30, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

I recently had Qmiles that were expiring and had to redeem them for a flight. However, as I did not have enough miles to redeem for any of QR’s medium or long-haul flights, I decided to look at their partner awards instead. Granted, the value wasn’t exactly there with partner airlines but it was still better than just letting my miles expire. From SIN, I found myself with either MH or CX as my options. However, for the weekend trip I was planning, CX did not have any available award seats so I ended up redeeming a one-way J class flight from KUL to SIN instead.

I have very fond memories of Malaysia Airlines’ Boeing 737’s which they utilize for regional flights within Southeast Asia. Many of MH’s Boeing narrow body planes have the Sky interiors which feature a roomier cabin with mood lighting.

At KUL, check-in was pretty straightforward. Other than getting the standard invite for the lounge, business class passengers also get a fast-track immigration ticket – a much-appreciated convenience as the queue for immigration could get quite long.

Flight Review: Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 Business Class – Still One of the Widest Out There

March 26, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

On a recent trip back to Singapore from Beijing, I had a couple of flight options. I had wanted to take the 777-300ER flights initially, hoping I would land on one of the refurbished planes but as the flight time was not very convenient (departure was at 00:05), I opted to fly business class on the Airbus A380 instead. SQ807 from PEK to SIN had a more reasonable departure time of 4:40pm with an arrival time in SIN 40 minutes before midnight. Total damage was 29,750 miles thanks to the pre-devaluation 15% discount for online redemptions.

Qatar Airways Unveils New QSuite – Double Beds & “Private Rooms” in Business Class

March 10, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Qatar Airways has revealed an industry-leading business class concept during the first day of ITB Berlin. Called the QSuites, the new offering features the first-ever double bed available in Business Class, with privacy panels that stow away, allowing passengers in adjoining seats to create their own private room. Adjustable panels and movable TV monitors on the centre four seats allow colleagues, friends or families travelling together to transform their space into a private suite, allowing them to work, dine and socialise together. The QSuites will first be made available in June 2017 on the Boeing 777-300ER and introduced progressively to London, Paris and New York for the first phase.

An Unbelievable Experience in Singapore Airlines Suites on the A380

March 9, 2017 by Bino 3 Comments

My journey towards the SQ Suites experience on the A380 was a haphazard one. After returning from a holiday in Pakistan and Taipei, I realized I had little time to prepare for my next trip. A quick glance through the weather channel showed that the temperature was -20 celsius in Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, where I was supposed to be two days later. With my connecting flight to Beijing leaving early the next morning, I quickly dumped the thickest coats I could find and hailed a cab to take me to Changi Airport.

Flight Review: ScootPlus on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner

March 3, 2017 by Bino 2 Comments

Last week, I managed to try Scoot’s premium ScootPlus (former ScootBiz) product on one of its all-Dreamliner fleet while flying to Amritsar in India. The airline had expanded its network last year to cover more destinations in the subcontinent, including Amritsar which it is currently serving as a monopoly.

In some respects, Scoot is not your typical low-cost carrier (LCC). There is not a single narrow body plane in its fleet and as of this writing, it is the only Singapore-based LCC  with a premium cabin. This is not to say that you can fly business class on Scoot. Think of ScootPlus as something more similar to premium economy, with slightly bigger seats and a few extras compared to other budget carriers.
