Hotel Review: China World Summit Wing – Beijing’s Tallest Hotel

March 22, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

The China World Summit Wing rises way above any other Beijing hotel, starting at the 64th floor where the reception is located. My first encounter with the hotel was perhaps unlike any other I’ve had before. Upon alighting from the cab, the greeter by the door immediately asked me, “Are you Mr. Chua?” to my pleasant surprise and immediately whisked me up to my 65th floor abode where my entire check-in process was done inside my room.

The property was built a couple of years back and is just one of the Shangri-la properties lining the China World Trade Centre area which also houses a China World Hotel, Kerry Hotel, Traders Hotel and (soon) a Hotel Jen. Indeed, this part of Beijing is dominated by Shangri-la hotels.

J65 at Hotel Jen Tanglin – 5 Different Kinds of Buffets to Choose From in a Week

March 22, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

J65, the all-day dining restaurant at Hotel Jen Tanglin, has recently launched its “themed nights buffet.” Basically, the buffet theme changes on most days – an international buffet on Sundays and Mondays, Asian on Tuesdays, lobsters of Wednesdays, live barbecue on Thursdays and seafood on Fridays and Saturdays. I recently headed down to J65 to check out the new buffet offering. As it was a Tuesday, I was treated to the “Colours of Asia” spread that evening.

Hotel Review: Shangri-la Ulaanbaatar – Mongolia’s First International Luxury Hotel

March 21, 2017 by Bino 1 Comment

When the Shangri-la Ulaanbaatar opened its doors in 2015, it was the first of its kind in Mongolia. It not only marked the very first international luxury hotel in the country but it was also the first integrated community concept with offices, a shopping mall and condominium units right by the hotel’s doorstep.

The 290-room luxury hotel is today a symbol of Mongolia’s growing affluence, brought about by the mining boom and the steady trickling in of foreign tourists. Finally, visitors can indulge themselves amidst well-appointed surroundings in Ulaanbaatar after roughing it for a few days in a ger in the Mongolian wilderness.

Hotel Review: Holiday Inn Ulaanbaatar – A Peek at IHG’s Future Direction

March 20, 2017 by Bino 2 Comments

The Holiday Inn Ulaanbaatar located in Sambuu Street 24 in the Chingeltei District is the first and only IHG property in Mongolia. The property debuted in late 2016 with 169 rooms and is notable for being only the 4th IHG property to feature the new open lobby concept that is being propagated by the Holiday Inn brand.

Hotel Review: Fairmont Beijing – One of the Best Club Lounges in the World

March 18, 2017 by Bino 4 Comments

Situated in Beijing’s ultramodern CBD area, the Fairmont Beijing in Yong An Dong Li evokes a style that is more in keeping with classical China. Heavy usage of red and imperial symbolisms throughout the property provide a juxtaposition to the uniquely shaped skyscraper that it is situated in and the soaring highrises that define the Jianguomenwai neighborhood. During a transit in Beijing prior to my visit to Mongolia, I stayed at the Fairmont Beijing for a night. It was a very short stay but easily one of my more memorable ones.

Hotel Review: Aerotel Singapore – Changi Airport Terminal 1 Transit Hotel

March 17, 2017 by Bino 2 Comments

The Aerotel Singapore, located in Changi Airport’s Terminal 1, debuted a year back as a one-of-a-kind transit hotel with a style that was a departure from the stuffy decor usually found in transit lodgings. Boasting facilities such as an outdoor swimming pool and a mini gym within Changi Airport, the Plaza Network development could be thought of as a leisure zone while waiting out for a flight. I recently had a Singapore Airlines Suites flight to Beijing with an early morning departure and thought to check out the Aerotel Singapore the night prior.

Hotel Review: Shangri-la’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Taipei – Excellent Horizon Club Lounge With Amazing Taipei 101 Views

March 17, 2017 by Bino 2 Comments

There is perhaps no other hotel in Taipei that has a better view than Shangri-la’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Taipei. At 43 storeys tall, the property stands at southern section of the main drag of the CBD, Tun Hwa South Road and is adjacent to the Far Eastern Plaza Mall. The property has been around for more than 20 years but is still known as the tallest hotel in the city. Having completed a massive renovation in 2015, the property is now equpped with some of the state-of-the-art amenities of newer Shangri-la hotels. I stayed at the Shangri-la’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel during a recent visit to Taipei to check out the refurbished rooms.
