Birds of a Feather New Menu: Western Cuisine With Sichuan Influence in Amoy Street

April 16, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Birds of a Feather opened in October 2016 in Amoy Street to favorable reviews among food critics. It offered western cuisine with a distinctly Sichuan influence – a concept which was a novel one even in a foodie haven such as Singapore. Several social and print media features over the past few months certainly piqued my interest but I never got to try it until recently, when I was invited down for a media tasting of the venue’s new menu.

The new food offerings were unveiled to the public on the 6th of April and I had the opportunity to check out a few of the new dishes that same day. I was impressed. The favorable reviews surrounding Birds of a Feather are certainly not unwarranted.

Hotel Review: Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong – Cool Peranakan-Inspired Property In the East Coast

April 15, 2017 by Bino 1 Comment

Opened in 2016, the Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong is situated in the atmospheric East Coast of Singapore, away from traditional tourist centers of the city. Personally, I love the intricate Peranakan shophouses and independent eateries lining the streets of the neighbourhood – rendering it one of my favourites in the Lion City.

As of this writing, there are 8 IHG hotels in Singapore with the Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay set to be the 9th. The Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong was the only one I had not stayed in so I was really excited when the opportunity to check out the property came by.

the hotel lobby comes well-stocked with books and has 2 macs for guests to use

The Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong is situated in East Coast Road and within walking distance from several iconic eateries and heritage sites (I will be writing a more in-depth guide of Katong in a separate post).

Hotel Review: St. Regis Kuala Lumpur – Ultra Luxurious Hotel in KL Sentral

April 7, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Opened in 2016, the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur is a 208-room hotel located near the bustling KL Sentral in the Malaysian capital. It had been a while since my last visit to Kuala Lumpur (I had also stayed in a hotel near the area then, the Hilton Kuala Lumpur). The St. Regis is probably the most high-profile hotel to open in the city for a couple of years so it was no question that I was to check out this property during this visit.

Ukraine Evening in Singapore Featuring “Fleur Cuisine” by Masterchef Iurii Kovryzhenko

April 6, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

Last 5th of April 2017, the Ukrainian Embassy in Singapore hosted a dinner reception in The Fullerton Hotel featuring delightful Ukrainian cuisine as part of the World Gourmet Summit. As with a gala event late last year, Masterchef Iurii Kovryzhenko from the Vintage Boutique Hotel in Lviv flew to the Lion City to delight guests with his creative interpretation of Ukrainian gastronomy – a cuisine which is rarely sampled in this part of the world. Since taking office in early 2016 as Ambassador of Ukraine in Singapore, His Excellency, Mr. Dmytro Senik has taken great strides to raise awareness about Ukraine in the Singapore market as a destination for tourism and investment.

Shangri-la Singapore Tower Wing to Reopen On 16th May 2017

April 6, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

After undergoing refurbishment for approximately 6 months, the flagship Tower Wing of the Shangri-la Singapore will reopen to guests on the 16th of May 2017 with a new look. The renovated Tower Wing will feature not only new rooms but also a couple of new food and beverage concepts, a new Horizon Club Lounge and areas catering to families.

I dropped by Shangri-la Singapore last November just when the Tower Wing closed down for renovation. I had a look at the room mock-ups. The new rooms will feature a similar look. Some pictures below:

Feng Shui Dos & Don’ts When Staying In a Hotel Room

April 5, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

While having drinks with some friends recently, I was introduced to a number of practices that people go through when they find themselves staying in a hotel room. Having done quite a number of hotel stays myself, I must admit some of these practices were not new to me personally.

Armed with this curiosity, I then checked around with a few fengshui experts and asked for some do’s and don’ts as well as the astrological reasons behind them. Personally, I am not a superstitious person but among the items in this list, I have to admit I practice #1 whenever I enter a hotel room for the first time. I guess it doesn’t hurt to do so!

Without further ado, here are some hotel room feng shui tips to hopefully bring even better luck to your travels!
