Hotel Review: Hilton Busan – Urban Seaside Resort With Unique Design

November 8, 2018 by Bino 1 Comment

Hilton Busan opened in 2017 as a beachfront hotel in a mixed-use resort complex called Ananti Cove in the eastern suburbs of South Korea’s preeminent southern port city. Designed as an urban resort, the property fits those seeking to get away from the city hustle and bustle but still want to retain the urban creature comforts. The property is about 15 minutes walk from one of Busan’s tourist spots – the Haedong Yonggungsa Temple – and is about 20 minutes drive to Haeundae Beach and the commercial areas of Centum City.

It is rare for a hotel to actually inspire me to travel somewhere but seeing the compelling aesthetic of the Hilton Busan in social media actually led me to make my way to Busan for my first visit to the city. From Busan Station to Hilton Busan, I took a taxi which cost approximately 24,000 Won. To save a bit of money, you can also travel to Centum City subway station and take a taxi from there. Your cab fare to the hotel can go down to almost half of the fare compared to originating a ride from Busan Station.

Brilliant Autumn Colors in Tokyo’s Showa Kinen Park

November 4, 2018 by Bino 16 Comments

Autumn is a magical time in Japan. The leaves start to wither, earlier in the countryside and in northern Japan, and at about late-November to early-December in Tokyo’s open areas like Showa Kinen Park. Called koyo, Japan’s parks and forests turn into a sea of red, yellow and brown especially when seen with a backdrop of maple and gingko trees. Autumn is widely considered to be the favorite season of most Japanese, and it was with much luck that my visit to Tokyo last week fell right smack in this season.

Editor’s Note: Here are more autumn leaves viewing spots in Tokyo.

With very little time, I shortlisted a few nice autumn viewing spots. Places such as Hibiya Park in central Tokyo, the Rikugien in Bunkyo Ward as well as Shinjuku’s Gyoen are considered to be some of the best autumn viewing spots in Tokyo. Since I only had time to visit one or two places, I eventually decided on Gingko Avenue or Icho Namiki in Aoyama and Showa Memorial Park (Showa Kinen Koen) in Tachikawa in western Tokyo.

Construction of the new lounge is due to start in April 2019. The Singapore First Lounge will offer seating for 240 customers, a luxurious design and premium a la carte dining with Asian-inspired menus. The existing Business Lounge, which opened in 2013, will also be expanded. When combined, the First and Business Lounges will offer seating for more than 800 customers.

Once the new lounge is finished (expected by end-2019), Qantas will be the only foreign airline to open a First Lounge at Changi Airport. Singapore will join Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles as Qantas ports with a dedicated First Lounge.

Qantas will also work with Chef Neil Perry and Industrial Designer David Caon in collaboration with Akin Atelier, to create a relaxing, high quality environment for passengers to either start their international journey or transit through Singapore. The design will embody a clear focus on sustainability with choices in materials, lighting interior, layouts and amenities all reflecting the highest local and international design techniques.
When the new lounge opens, it will come with shower facilities, a cocktail bar, open kitchen and menu offerings reflecting the best of Singapore’s vibrant dining culture.

Review: Telok Ayer Arts Club – Restaurant cum Gallery in the CBD

October 27, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

Telok Ayer Arts Club opened roughly a month ago in McCallum Street as a multi-concept venue by The Supermarket Company. More than just a restaurant, the venue combines food and drink, art and music in an accessible space.

The venue is curated by individuals from the creative scene with experts for the music and visual arts. From time to time, you can even glance upon paintings which are meant to suit the playlist and to an extent, the food menu.

How to Use The Smartwatch For My Travels

October 22, 2018 by Bino 1 Comment

The idea of travel has evolved rapidly in the last ten years or so that tools I used in the past – such as my notebook, guidebook, map and even compass – have relegated somewhat to being old-fashioned. So many tools have come up in recent years to make the idea of putting your life in a suitcase a reality. Guide books are now found as e-books and can be read over a tablet or phone while modern-day apps tell me exactly how to get from point a to b without having to ask a stranger for directions or look like a screaming tourist with a large paper map in tow. I suppose one of the main hurdles now is getting oneself familiar with these tools and the best way to use them. One tool which can easily be integrated to daily wear is the smart watch. Whether you are an android or iOS user, there are definitely advantages to be had by using a smart watch to help you with your travels. Check out the smartwatch infographic and read my top picks of the available options.

Sri Lankan Crabs at Wan Hao, Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza (2018)

October 16, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

It is almost hairy crab season again and this year, Wan Hao at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza is doing something different by offering Sri Lankan crabs instead. Known for their huge size and juicy meat, it’s a good year-round alternative to the seasonal and oftentimes, harder to eat hairy crabs that diners tend to prize.

Wan Hao’s crab promotion runs from now until 30th November 2018 and range from starters to mains. I headed down to the restaurant recently to check it out.
