Hotel Staycation Review: InterContinental Singapore (Junior Suite)

October 26, 2020 by Bino 2 Comments

It’s been a while since my last stay in InterContinental Singapore. The property located in Bugis Junction has always been one of my favorite hotels in Singapore. For a relatively modest price point where luxury hotels are concerned, the InterContinental Singapore seamlessly melds its own unique Peranakan interpretation into its upscale hotel proposition. Since my last hotel stay experience there, I also found that the property made some adjustments with the room types as well as introduced tweaks into the club lounge experience.

Hotel Staycation Review: M Social Singapore – A Robot Prepared My Eggs

October 25, 2020 by Bino Leave a Comment

M Social Singapore possesses an unmistakable appeal that has attracted a relatively young (and local) clientele since it opened in 2016. Its main draw are the loft-style rooms which create a unique atmosphere in this space-deprived city. Loft-style rooms are actually not a new concept when M Social Singapore opened. It was pioneered by another hotel within the Millennium Group, the Studio M Hotel also in Robertson Quay. What M Social Singapore did however was to take the loft concept one step further by bringing in Philippe Starck to make this property a design-driven hotel.

The thought that this isn’t your conventional hotel becomes apparent as one pulls up the driveway and enter the hotel. One is greeted by Aura, the robot who delivers supplies to guests and guides them to Beast & Butterflies for breakfast. There is no dearth of seating space and it’s all neatly arranged in a row as a communal high chair setup.

Tip: As of the 2020 “situation”, M Social Singapore has become one of the more popular staycation options in Singapore with registration actually occurring outside the main entrance. Queues regularly form during check-in from 3PM to 4PM especially for weekend stays so it’s best to arrive around 30 minutes before check-in time to take into account of the wait.

Hotel Staycation Review: Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa

October 14, 2020 by Bino Leave a Comment

Tucked away in a quiet and lush corner of Sentosa, the tranquil Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa offers a rare respite from the urbanity of a dense city such as Singapore. The resort opened in late-2015, having replaced what was once The Sentosa, a Beaufort resort. Today, the Accor property boasts of 211 rooms and suites, 4 villas and the world’s largest So Spa. I also counted no less than 4 F&B options – the most of any Accor property in Singapore.

One minor annoyance about staying in Sentosa is transport but this property seems to get it right. Having stayed in other hotels in the island previously, I noted how the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort has what is probably the most frequent complimentary shuttle service schedule – half hour intervals between the hotel and Vivocity starting at 7:30am and ending at 11:30pm (around 2 or 3 hours later than other properties) with no lunch break. There is also a complimentary shuttle service between the hotel and Paragon in Orchard – at two hour intervals starting at 10am and ending at 10:30pm.

Hotel Review: Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza (Pool Terrace Room) – Staycation in the Heart of Orchard Road

August 16, 2020 by Bino Leave a Comment

It probably comes as a surprise to most that one can actually soak in the tropical resort vibe at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza. It also feels slightly ironic that it does so despite sitting at the crossroads of what is probably the country’s busiest intersection – Orchard and Scotts.

Some of those who have done staycations at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza – especially those who have confined themselves to the usual rooms probably won’t immediately agree to that resort-style proposition but those in the know have been booking out the property’s popular Pool Terrace rooms for years. The Pool Terrace Room is the property’s answer to resort-style living. As there are only 9 of such rooms in the hotel, this room category is able to command a premium and is also always booked out well in advance, especially for weekend stays. During a recent weekend, I was able to check out the Pool Terrace Room at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza thanks to the invitation of the kind team.

Hotel Staycation Review: Mandarin Oriental Singapore (Marina Bay Suite) – Truly Unblocked Marina Bay Views

April 5, 2020 by Bino 1 Comment

With a hard-to-beat Marina Bay location, the Mandarin Oriental Singapore is one of the most luxurious hotels in the city for staycations. The brand is well-known for delivering Asian sensibilities in its product – from the physical appearance of the rooms and facilities down to the detailed-oriented service standards of the staff. I stayed in the flagship Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong previously and was bowled over by the interactions I had with the staff. It truly was one of my most memorable hotel stays and had me yearning to experience more of the Mandarin Oriental proposition.

The Singapore property has a relatively modest lobby which belies the majestic atrium that you see from Level 4 onwards. The hotel was built in 1987 and was designed by John Portman (who also designed the nearby PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay). Upon check-in, I was informed by reception that the hotel was running full and they would upgrade me instead to a Marina Bay Suite.

Hotel Review: Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore (Club Deluxe Marina Room) – Topnotch Club Lounge & Impressive Views

April 2, 2020 by Bino Leave a Comment

The Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore is one of my most frequently stayed hotels in the Lion City. My initial encounter with the Marina Bay icon was in 2013 when I was still fresh to the concept of a staycation. I had never stayed in a luxury hotel prior to that and the level of service totally blew me away. With these fond memories, I decided to book the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore last year and left with the same heightened level of service from the highly professional and eager staff.

Just a few days ago, I went for another stay at the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore. The property had launched its Canvas of Views staycation package which includes plenty of enhancements such as a stay at a Club Room, a complimentary private hotel art tour, admission to the Art Science Museum as well as a lavender bath.

Easy Guide to Park Rewards – Loyalty Programme of Park Hotel Group

August 20, 2019 by Bino Leave a Comment

Park Hotel Group, the chain behind the Park and Grand Park hotel brands, has launched a new rewards programme for guests. Membership is totally free – anyone can join with immediate benefits even to base-level members.

I got to to see first-hand how this relatively new loyalty programme works via a recent stay at Park Hotel Clarke Quay. The property invited me for a stay but I extended my nights there on my own accord and used my membership in the process.
