I first wrote about Mileslife when it made its debut here in Singapore. In the few months since then, their list of dining and lifestyle merchants has expanded and now include some of the most well-known restaurants in Singapore. One of the earliest merchants to accept Mileslife was Crystal Jade – probably the most recognizable Chinese restaurant chain in Singapore with dozens of branches and sub-brands within the country. I recently paid them a visit with the intention of using Mileslife as it adds Emirates Skywards as its newest frequent flyer programme in its list of partners.
For every $1 spent, members will earn up to 5 Skywards Miles and an additional bonus based on their Emirates Skywards tier. Emirates Skywards Silver members earn 25% bonus Miles on every purchase, Gold members earn 50% bonus Miles while Platinum members earn 75% bonus Miles. The tiered bonus is unique to the Emirates Skywards programme.
There is also an ongoing promotion which allows Mileslife users to earn triple Skywards Miles on all spends until 30 November 2017 when selecting Emirates Skywards as their frequent flyer programme (FFP) of choice.
With the growing list of merchants under Mileslife, users can now see interesting subheadings. One that piqued my interest was the “Michelin” category where there are now 2 restaurants to be found – Bacchanalia and Crystal Jade Golden Palace. I chose the latter which is a more accessible option.
One of the components of the Emirates-Mileslife promotion is that users can immediately get 200 Skywards Miles just by linking their Emirates Skywards account to the app. In case you don’t have an Emirates Skywards account, you can sign up for free HERE. Upon linking my Emirates Skywards account, my app was updated with the 200 bonus Skywards Miles in no time. The actual crediting of the Skywards Miles to my Emirates Skywards account takes 5 business days.
For first time users, do note that you also need to link a credit card which the app will use to charge for each transaction you made.
This was not my first visit to Crystal Jade Golden Palace and as usual, I found the food to be fantastic. If you are wondering what to order here, I wholeheartedly recommend the codfish, pan-fried with radish and yellow bean. Do note that Crystal Jade serves up special dishes from time to time that may not earn you any Miles with Mileslife so it’s better to check with the supervisor before ordering your coveted dishes.
When it’s time to pay, just inform the staff that you are paying with Mileslife. They’ll soon come with the merchant’s version of the app. In your app, just draw up the merchant from the list or via a quick search. A button will then show up at the bottom right stating “Pay at store.”
It will then lead you to the payment page where you enter the amount to pay. In terms of earning Skywards Miles, do note that taxes and service charge don’t go into the calculation of Miles. When you enter the amount, it will also show you the number of Skywards Miles that you’ll get for the transaction. For the case of Emirates Skywards, the promotion of triple Skywards Miles is clearly shown.
Mileslife states that Miles earned will be credited to your appointed FFP in approximately 3 to 5 days. In my case with the Emirates Skywards account, it took less. I checked my FFP account after two days and saw the Skywards Miles credited there – both for linking my Emirates Skywards account and the Miles earned for the dining transaction.
Excluding the taxes and surcharges, I earned approximately 6 Skywards Miles per $1 for the transaction, which is not a bad deal.
Crystal Jade | Number of Miles earned per S$1 spent |
---|---|
Regular | 2 |
Including current promotion (earn triple Skywards Miles on all spend until 30 November 2017 when selecting Emirates Skywards as your FFP of choice) | x3 |
Total | 6 |
This is considering the current dearth of good miles-earning credit cards today that caters to dining spends. That being said, Crystal Jade is just one of the numerous merchants in Mileslife. With other dining partners, there is the opportunity to earn up to 9 Skywards Miles per $1 per transaction including the tier bonus of up to 75% for Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold and Platinum members.
If you don’t have Mileslife yet, sign up with my code “IWANDER ” HERE to earn 1,000 bonus Skywards Miles on your first spend.
