Il Lido at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa – White Asparagus Menu

June 28, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

I was invited to a tasting last week at Sofitel Sentosa’s Il Lido At The Cliff restaurant to preview their new White Asparagus set menu. As someone who enjoys vegetables/ believes in healthy eating, this seemed like an interesting opportunity to try out new dishes which feature one of my favorites.

Il Lido is the property’s Italian restaurant, located right by a cliff that overlooks the Straits of Singapore. There are tables both inside and outside the restaurant building to cater for different preferences. We arrived in the early evening just before dusk and were greeted warmly by staff who led us to our table at the shaded terrace. The outside tables are very popular due to the views of the strait. In the evening, the lights of the passing barges provide a scenic backdrop fit for any celebration.

Lake Garda – Why You Should Visit This Underrated Slice of Northern Italy (With Itinerary)

June 26, 2017 by Bino 4 Comments

Midway during my trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg in May this year, I received an invitation to visit a place called Lake Garda in Italy. Having been to this Southern European country a few times, the name piqued my curiosity. I have heard of Lake Como – that body of water just north of Milan filled with mansions owned by celebrities. Then there’s also Carezza, the baby blue lake in Italy’s alpine region. But I have to say I had not known about Lake Garda before.

Nami – Review of New Japanese Restaurant in Shangri-la Singapore (With Menu)

June 24, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

It had been a while since I last made a visit to Shangri-la Singapore. In a span of a few months, the hotel revamped their Tower Wing, refreshed the lobby and is in the midst of launching a few new food concepts. One of them is Nami, the fine dining Japanese restaurant which opened only on the 31st May 2017.

During my latest visit to the luxury hotel, I went to try the delights of Nami. It has received quite a few great reviews since it opened and I was not disappointed when I went to try it out for myself. The food, put simply, was a pleasure from start to finish.

6 Hair Care Tips for Frequent Travelers

June 11, 2017 by Bino 2 Comments

As I am usually on the go, I never really pay much attention to personal care when I am traveling. I just bring my usual face wash and shampoo and that’s it. However, my recent trips this year prodded me to pay more attention, especially with the hair. I noticed my scalp really drying up as I was traversing the arid but bitterly cold conditions of Mongolia.  Ditto for my trips around Southeast Asia where the heat had caused some painful acne to appear on my scalp.

As I am no expert in hair, I have collaborated with the folks at Beijing 101 for some hair care tips while on the go. Make sure to scroll down to the bottom for a chance to win shopping vouchers and free hair and scalp consultation sessions.

Wear a hat

Prolonged sun exposure can dry your scalp or worse – cause discoloration. Wearing a hat is a great way to avoid hair damage whenever there is direct sun exposure.

Put sunscreen on your hair

For folks who have greasy hair, do note that the heat can stimulate your scalp’s oil producing glands and can trigger folliculitis or hair acne. If you prefer to let your hair down uncovered, an alternative is to use sunscreen. Spray-on types work best for the hair instead of cream-based ones. The former is also easier to use.

Wash your hair frequently

If you happen to be traveling around a humid and hot country – most places around the region fall within this category – you would do well by washing your hair in the evenings after coming back from a day around town. This can help wash away dirt and excess sebum from your scalp – too much of which could lead to hair loss.

Be careful about pool water

Pool water is often filled with lots of chlorine that can unnecessarily dry up and damage your hair. One way to keep your hair from soaking up pool water is by using a swimming cap. Alternatively, slathering your hair with conditioner / moisturizer before a swim can help protect against the chlorine drying up your hair.

Just chill

Holidays are experiences to enjoy and cherish but sometimes, unforeseen circumstances could spell disaster. Prolonged periods of stress could lead to hair loss so remember to chill.

Consider going for scalp treatment after your trip

Traveling can expose you to foreign bodies or climates which your body is not accustomed to. This can have varying effects on your scalp – from excessive dryness or greasiness. In my case, my recent trips to Mongolia and Russia – places which are very dry – sapped my scalp of moisture. Going for a scalp treatment after your trip, especially when you visit places that are vastly different from Singapore in terms of weather, could help restore your hair to healthier conditions quicker. It will also enable you to identify any serious conditions before they become chronic.

Review: La Valette Club (Post-Renovation) in Malta International Airport – One of the Best Airport Lounges in Europe

June 7, 2017 by Bino Leave a Comment

After 5 wonderful days in Malta, it was finally time to head back to the European mainland. The small airport only has one lounge in the departures area and that is the La Valette Club. Passengers flying in business class with the small list of airlines that make their way to Malta as well as Priority Pass passengers get to have access to the lounge. Otherwise, it is also available on a pay-per-use basis for EUR 29.

When I arrived in the La Valette Club, I was told the lounge was renovated only earlier this year. This was my first time in the lounge but I must say I was really impressed with the sleek, Italian style furnishings. Visually, it is one of the most pleasant lounges I’ve been to.

Moscow or St. Petersburg – Which Russian City Is Better?

June 4, 2017 by Bino 7 Comments

As two of the most popular tourist destinations in Russia, most travelers who visit the world’s largest countries end up making their way to both Moscow and St. Petersburg. Both cities have a wealth of attractions, including palaces, churches as well as exciting culinary and nightlife scenes. But what if you find yourself able to visit only one – should you visit Moscow or St. Petersburg? Alternatively, if you have time for both, in which city do you spend more days?

During a recent trip to Russia, I had a similar problem deciding. My trip allowed me to visit both cities but I was not sure in the beginning whether I should stay for more days in Moscow or St. Petersburg. As such, the comparison I am going to do here applies both to those trying to allocate the number of days between the two cities as well as those who have enough time to visit only one,
