The Essential 3-Day Itinerary for New Orleans – Most Exotic City in the United States

February 18, 2019 by Bino 2 Comments

The mix of cultures in New Orleans makes the city one of the most interesting places in the world to visit. “The Big Easy” is known for its history and architecture, music and art, and cuisine and nightlife.

There is so much to see and do that travellers return again and again to expand their explorations. With more than 1,000 restaurants and cafes, the food options alone guarantee a unique experience every time. The city is always humming with the sounds of its celebrated jazz and blues musicians, as well as frequent festivals and other events.

For those who have only three days to spend in New Orleans, here is a suggested itinerary.

The Perfect Itinerary for Kaohsiung and Tainan (2019 Travel Guide)

February 11, 2019 by Bino 12 Comments

Kaoshiung and Tainan, the main cities in the southern region of Taiwan, have been getting quite a bit of attention lately thanks to government efforts to promote the region to overseas tourists. The historic heart of the island has seen plenty of new hotels as well as redevelopment of existing tourist infrastructure in recent years. Being slightly more than a 3-hour high speed train ride from Taipei, it makes sense to spend a couple of days in the southern cities. This is after all where Taiwan’s capital used to be. Those who make the effort to come here are ultimately rewarded with a different side to Taiwanese culture. People tend to speak Minnan (Hokkien) here compared to Mandarin and the tropical climate also means plenty of sunshine as compared to the usually dreary weather up north. If you are thinking of visiting Kaohsiung and Tainan and have no idea where to go, this suggested itinerary can hopefully help you.

The Essential 2-day Weekend Itinerary for Melaka (Malacca Travel Guide)

Melaka (Malacca) is one of the most historic destinations in all of Malaysia. With an old town that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Melaka is filled with charming Peranakan shophouses, old churches, unusual-looking mosques and one of the best restored old towns in the country. Tourist attractions aside, Melaka is also known for the food. Chendol, chicken rice balls, Peranakan food and Portuguese cuisines are just some of the things your tastebuds should try while here.

For a practical and efficient weekend trip to Melaka, this itinerary and travel guide aims to tell you how the town should be done within 2 days.

The Perfect Itinerary For Hoi An, Hue and Da Nang In Central Vietnam (2019 Updated Travel Guide)

November 29, 2018 by Bino 15 Comments

The central part of Vietnam where the cities of Hoi An, Hue and Da Nang are located, is considered to be one of the main touristic centers of the country. The region contains a diversity of attractions ranging from a UNESCO World Heritage town to archeological sites and even Vietnam’s former imperial capital. For outdoorsy types, the area also has plenty to offer in terms of beaches and you can find plenty of award-winning luxury resorts here. The world’s largest cave – Hang Son Doong – can also be found in the region.

If you are also visiting Hanoi during your trip to Vietnam, check out my suggested Hanoi itinerary HERE

If you are visiting Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue and thinking how long you need to spend in the area, I would suggest you go for 4 days / 3 nights minimally. The three cities are accessible from each other to be day trip destinations but I would suggest spending at least a night per city to really appreciate the distinct vibe in each place.

Where you start really depends on your personal preference and where you are coming from. During my trip to Central Vietnam, I arrived via Da Nang International Airport and headed to Hue right away as it was the farthest of the three cities. From Da Nang, Hue is around a 2 hour drive.

Halloween Horror Nights 2018 at Universal Studios Singapore

November 9, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

It has been a long while since I’ve gone for the Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Singapore. I went for the first one in 2011 and remember being awed by the visual effects and dedicated actors who made the haunted houses as spooky as possible. This wasn’t the usual amusement park scary house as I soon discovered. I went for my second one in 2016 and the enjoyment was not at all diminished despite being five years older.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights is a play on Asian horror. There are Malay, Chinese and Japanese themed horror houses that complement a Netflix tie-up, Stranger Things. In total there are 5 haunted houses, 2 scare zones and 3 live shows this year.

Brilliant Autumn Colors in Tokyo’s Showa Kinen Park

November 4, 2018 by Bino 16 Comments

Autumn is a magical time in Japan. The leaves start to wither, earlier in the countryside and in northern Japan, and at about late-November to early-December in Tokyo’s open areas like Showa Kinen Park. Called koyo, Japan’s parks and forests turn into a sea of red, yellow and brown especially when seen with a backdrop of maple and gingko trees. Autumn is widely considered to be the favorite season of most Japanese, and it was with much luck that my visit to Tokyo last week fell right smack in this season.

Editor’s Note: Here are more autumn leaves viewing spots in Tokyo.

With very little time, I shortlisted a few nice autumn viewing spots. Places such as Hibiya Park in central Tokyo, the Rikugien in Bunkyo Ward as well as Shinjuku’s Gyoen are considered to be some of the best autumn viewing spots in Tokyo. Since I only had time to visit one or two places, I eventually decided on Gingko Avenue or Icho Namiki in Aoyama and Showa Memorial Park (Showa Kinen Koen) in Tachikawa in western Tokyo.

The Perfect Itinerary for Phnom Penh, Siem Reap & Battambang – One Week Cambodia Travel Guide

October 7, 2018 by Bino Leave a Comment

Cambodia has perhaps been squarely identified with Angkor Wat that those who have not visited are hard pressed to find a different reason to come. For someone who used to be stuck with this mindset, it took me six long years before I made my second visit to Cambodia (my first one was to see the temples of Angkor).  What I discover during my subsequent visits (there have been 6 as of this writing) have always left me eager to uncover more. There are a lot of things that have kept me coming back, including the delicious food, the multifaceted architecture as well as friendly people. For folks who have yet to visit or are deciding whether to do so, I hope my suggested itinerary for Cambodia which runs through Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Battambang will be of help!
