As travellers grow more demanding of stress-reducing amenities, more hotel chains are inclined to open more branches near airports to give passengers a chance to relax from a long day of flying. As an example how pricey airport hotels are becoming, it was recently announced that MCR Development won the bid to develop a luxury hotel at JFK Airport, anticipated to open towards the end of 2018. Together with JetBlue, they plan on restoring the 1960s splendor of the TWA terminal, which will integrate with the design of the hotel. A nice concept, but it’s also going to be a very expensive one in the long run.
A cheap, good quality airport hotel can be hard to come across, especially in places like London Heathrow which saw more than 70 million passengers in 2014 due to the multitude of flight connections at the hub. Flying can be quite draining, and many of us fall victim of overpriced onsite accommodation that have nothing more than a standard bed and shower. Some complain of the hefty cost yet still book a room because of limited options in terms of airport accommodation, but if there was one hotel that lived up to its value, it’s the Ambassador Transit Hotel at Changi Airport.
Run by the Harilela Group that owns properties across Asia, Europe and North America, Ambassador Hotel Services were introduced to SIN in 1995 to address the airport’s growing passenger base. Clean, comfortable, with lots of natural lighting, the minimalist designed hotel almost makes you forget that you’re even in an airport.
Rooms range from Single to Triple and cost between 90 to 135 SGD for a 6-hour block, while those travelling on the cheap can make their way to Terminal 2 so they can catch some z’s in the Budget Room for just 55 SGD. All rooms come with an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a television, and a wake-up call service. A coffee machine is included in all but the Budget Rooms. The Transit Lounge has dining and gym facilities if you feel like stepping out of your room for a while.
Although if it’s just a shower that you’re looking for, Ambassador Transit Hotel in Terminals 2 and 3 have 24-hour shower facilities where you can pamper yourself from a hectic day. 16 SGD is inclusive of basic toiletries, aromatherapy products, and a non-alcoholic drink.
