Over the new year’s eve weekend, I had made a last minute decision to bring my family for a hotel staycation. I thought it was a nice way to escape the smokey air usually associated with the heavy blasting of fireworks that perennially marks the final day of the year.
Given that NYE was just a few days away, I was shocked to find most hotels in Manila going for Php 8,000 and above per night. Rooms that would otherwise cost half of that amount were going for unreasonable rates. I tried various booking websites and also going into the official websites of hotel chains but prices were not any cheaper.
I recently discovered an app called HotelQuickly which specializes in last-minute hotel bookings. I got my hands on it after I received a referral code from a friend which gave me around 600 pesos / 25 Singapore Dollars in credits towards my first booking so as a last-ditch effort of finding a reasonably-priced hotel for new year’s eve, I did a quick search at HotelQuickly.

I was amazed to find a great selection of hotels available for booking. While choices were a bit narrow on new year’s eve itself, I spotted many highly-rated hotels for other dates and these ranged from boutique hotels to more well-known chain properties.

It was here that I chanced upon available rooms at Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila which was going for less than 4,000 pesos per night. I am also an IHG member and by that fact, I went into my IHG Rewards Club app to check prices for this property for that same date. Lo and behold, the “best available rate” was over 8,000 pesos!
The good thing about HotelQuickly is that the app can be used for hotel bookings across the region. Since I travel around Southeast Asia quite a bit, I do foresee myself checking out the app to compare rates every now and then!
