Sunday Brunch Buffet at Marriott Manila’s Marriott Cafe

During my short but fantastic staycation at Marriott Manila, I had the opportunity to try their well-known Sunday Brunch. Since I live in the northern part of the metropolis whenever I’m in town, this was my first time to sample the delights of the Marriott Cafe in Manila – though I’d always been curious to try it since I’m a semi-regular at the Marriott Cafe in the Singapore hotel.

The popularity of the Sunday Brunch concept at Marriott Manila was evident from the moment I stepped in. The restaurant was filled to the brim with families enjoying a slow and leisurely meal at one of the best-value upmarket buffets in town.

The Sunday Brunch at Marriott Cafe is one of the most expansive buffets I’ve seen, so much so that the spread actually extended all the way to the neighboring restaurant, Cru Steakhouse during the Sunday that I was there. It’s a literal maze of food with surprises at every turn. They even converted one of the private dining rooms into a dessert theater just to accommodate the wide variety of cakes that they had.

I couldn’t help but be drawn to the carving station as I surveyed the food on offer. Huge slabs of meat, including turkey and roast beef, were sitting there waiting to be sliced and served. The meat lover’s delights actually didn’t end there. A short walk to Cru Steakhouse – where the buffest extends to during Sundays – revealed more including a grill station featuring no less than generous portions of Rib-Eye Steaks, grouper (lapu lapu fish), crab and various shellfish.

The problem with most steaks I’ve tried elsewhere is that the meat usually turns out dry. The steak here was remarkably tender with its juiciness evident as I had my first bite. This is a definite must try in Marriott Cafe’s Sunday Brunch!

There was also a prominent Japanese section here and I was relieved to find that they offered more than just the standard 2 types of sashimi (salmon and tuna) with the rarely featured Grouper Sashimi, along with a nice variety of rolls.

seafood galore

wide variety of western hot dishes on offer

For buffets, I usually just focus on the carving stations and the Japanese selection but Marriott Cafe had an equally delightful offering of western and fusion dishes. I especially loved the crab fried rice. There was also a decent selection of Filipino fare, including my favorite lechon kawali or roast pork sitting on a carving station of its own.

The restaurant also dished out free drinks in the form of milkshakes made on the spot at the corridor that connects Marriott Cafe to Cru Steakhouse, with a choice between chocolate and strawberry. Or both if the appetite warranted.

the dessert selection here is a buffet of its own

As I mentioned earlier, the desserts at Marriott Cafe are legendary and they even have a room just for cakes and other pastries. The dessert selection alone can merit its own buffet and this is one extra to look out for when coming here for Sunday Brunch. My personal favorite was the halo-halo (Filipino dessert) stand featuring slightly over a dozen toppings.
