Hotel Review: Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza (Executive Premier Room) – Refurbished Executive Lounge & Topnotch Orchard Road Address

September 11, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza has quietly refurbished several parts of the property in recent years. In 2015, this took the form of the gorgeous swimming pool and Pool Terrace rooms while the award-winning Chinese restaurant, Wan Hao, was refreshed a year later. In between, the corridors of certain floors had also been updated and now come in soothing gray. In 2018/19, the new Executive Lounge opened in the same level as the pool, replacing what was once Pool Grill.

My recent stay at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza coincided with a new weekend staycation package targeted at residents – the Ultimate Urban Staycation. The property’s strategic location at the junction of Orchard and Scotts makes it an ideal place for a weekend getaway and allows one to be a tourist in Singapore.

Best Cheap, Midrange & Luxury Hotels in Da Nang, Vietnam

September 5, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

I have been to Da Nang in Central Vietnam countless times and one thing that always impresses me is the relative quality and value-for-money of accommodation options there. US$40 per night can easily get you a nice, modern looking hotel with welcome drink/fruit basket and breakfast while US$100 will already get you close to 5-star level of luxury. This is why I love coming back and each time I am here, I try a different place to stay.

In Da Nang, there are 3 general areas to stay. The cheapest ones can be had within the inner city itself west of the Han River. The second general area is Phuoc My / My An where countless beachside hotels abound. These hotels generally come with great views of the sea with the hotels themselves separated from the beach by a road (or two). The third area is the most exclusive one – generally south of My Khe Beach. Many luxury resorts with their own beachfront are located here. Hotels in this area are mostly low-rise and come with plenty of space to roam around.

In this guide, I show a mixture of hotels from these 3 areas – ranging from cheap to luxurious ones that you can book for your next Da Nang trip.

Hotel Review: The Sukhothai Bangkok – Club Balcony Room

August 25, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

Situated right smack in the CBD of Bangkok, The Sukhothai Bangkok seems like a world away from the hustle and bustle of the frenetic city with its long, leafy entryway and low-rise setup. This resort-like setting immediately sets it apart from its competitors (in which there are many) and is probably one reason why the property is still going strong despite turning 31 years old this year.

The hotel is popular among foreigners and locals alike. Bangkok residents come here for their famed chocolate buffet near the lobby and the occasional staycation. The palpable namesake inspiration – that of the Sukhothai ruins – is evident throughout the property including the pillared lobby and even in the choice of decor in all guestrooms. As such, The Sukhothai Bangkok attracts locals looking to connect with their ancient culture as well as foreigners looking for an exotic touch to their hotel stay.

Singapore National Day Menus to Check Out For 2022

August 5, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

Singapore’s National Day for 2022 comes close to a long weekend with just one working day in between. 9th August is a Tuesday this year which means you can take a day off on Monday and have a longer time celebrating. Compared to the last two years, there are more dine-in offers available though takeaways are expected to remain popular – especially with larger groups/families who prefer to dine in the comfort of home. Without further ado, here are some National Day dining promotions you can check out.

UOB One Account Raising Interest Rates Effective August 2022

August 2, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

One of the consequences of higher inflation is an increase in interest rates. Although we have been seeing a marked increase in consumer prices for the past 9 months, Singapore banks have only started to hike interest rates of savings/checking accounts recently. UOB has recently adjusted the interest rates of its popular UOB One Account by increasing the interest rates of its S$75k to S$100k tier and giving a direct incentive to depositors for crediting their salary to the UOB One Account.

Food Review: Mad About Sucre (2022) Summer Menu

July 27, 2022 by Bino Leave a Comment

Mad About Sucre stands in an area that has seen constant change in terms of tenant mix. Over the years, the shophouses surrounding Bukit Pasoh have evolved from clan associations and offices into hip bars, Michelin-starred restaurants and exclusive members-only clubs. Mad About Sucre, which has stood in the section near where Teo Hong Road melds into Bukit Pasoh since 2014, is probably the oldest surviving modern F&B establishment in the area – quite a feat when one considers that only 60% of smaller restaurants in Singapore ever make it past 5 years.

I had first known about Mad About Sucre since their first year of operations back in 2014 but I’ve never had a meal here prior to this visit. I have tried their pastries before which I remembered to be very good and I had also heard stellar reviews about their savory dishes so I was quite excited to drop by for dinner upon receiving an invitation to dine here.

At the time of my visit, Mad About Sucre was rolling out its summer menu. Despite supply chain challenges throughout much of the world, the restaurant still imports many of their ingredients. This includes their caviar which they still source from Ukraine despite the war.

Entering for the first time since their refurbishment, the space looks very much to me like an arts space with projectors across three sides of the multi-colored dining hall showcasing the blooming of different types of flowers.
