Nestled in the busy streets of Ortigas Center, VU’s Sky Bar and Lounge can be found on the 45th floor of the Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. Located at the top floor of the hotel, the first-of-its kind sky bar and lounge is separated into an indoor and outdoor experience. Fortunately for us, we were invited to attend the latter, which had a more relaxed vibe. The actual location of the door looks nondescript. Upon entering, one becomes transported into a night scene unlike any other. The dim lights and comfortable seating makes the venue conducive for a romantic night cap or for hanging out with friends after a stressful day.
In showcasing one of the many wine brands, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila created a Wine Tasting event located at the VU’s Sky Bar and Lounge. The night’s honor belonged to the Torres Winery, who gave us a taste of their four wines; Torres Viña Sol, Torres Gran Viña Sol, Torres Sangre de Toro and Torres Gran Sangre de Toro. To complement the Torres’ wine selection, VU’s Sky Bar and Lounge offered us a sampling of canapes; Foie Gras Praline, Scallop Al Nero, Salmon Mi-Ciut (Mi-Cuit), and Smoked Turkey & Jalapeño. Since we weren’t told which drink would complement which bite-sized food portion, we just decided to taste each on its own and deduce the latter.
Wine # 1 Torres Vina Sol A light colored white wine with an aroma of apple and lemon zest, with a smooth finish. Perfect pair for the Salmon, and easily drinkable for amateur wine drinkers.
Wine # 2 Torres Gran Vina Sol With its golden color, and a distinctive smell of orange, has a long acidic finish which is not for all wine drinkers. Perfectly paired with scallops.
Wine # 3 Torres Sangre de Toro Oaky smell and strong tobacco flavour. This wine has a long delicate finish that will appeal for most wine drinkers, Perfect with the chocolate covered foie gras.
Wine #4 Strong red color, obvious black berry flavour with an uncanny long oaky and bitter after taste. Best with the turkey canape we had.
For 788 pesos net, I look forward to another Wine Tasting event by Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. It seemed like a free flowing wine fountain with never ending tapas, that’s worth it in my book.
