Conrad Centennial Singapore underwent a progressive refurbishment in 2018 that encompassed the guest rooms, executive lounge plus a couple of new facilities by the swimming pool. I have personally stayed in this property quite a few times and always found the deliberately high beds one of the most comfortable among hotels in Singapore. Recently, I returned for a staycation – this time to experience what the newly renovated rooms and executive lounge have to offer.

Centennial Suite

For this particular stay, I was billeted in one of the hotel’s popular Centennial Suites. Measuring 63 square meters, think of it as a luxury one-bedroom condominium unit. Unlike some of the suites in newer hotels, this particular one comes with genuine partitions between bedroom, living area and bath. Most of these suites are also situated as corner rooms at either ends of the building so chances are, your bedroom will directly face the Fountain of Wealth at Suntec City.

One of the best additions in all guest rooms post-renovation is the inclusion of a long day bed by the windows. In the Centennial Suite, this is even longer, allowing one to unwind and nap in the day while basking in natural light. The living area has a proper work desk but I much rather take advantage of the light and work while sitting on the dining ensemble instead.

I was relieved to find that Conrad Centennial Singapore retained its wonderfully high (and fluffy) beds – one of the best reasons to stay in the hotel in my opinion. The disposable slippers are just as fluffy. You’ll find a control panel for the lights and curtains on either side of the bed. The bedroom is also spacious enough to contain its own modest sitting area while the cabinets offer plenty of space to store your clothes during your stay. As with any stay in Conrad Centennial Singapore, you’ll find one of the hotel’s trademark bears carefully placed on your bed as a personal souvenir.

bathroom – centennial suite
The bathroom is probably the area that was least affected by the renovation. While the sink and the surrounding lights have been redesigned, the marbled tiles are mostly the same, as is the attached tub. Another souvenir in the form of a rubber ducky is placed here for both little and not-so-little guests to enjoy during their bubble bath.

Toiletries are now from Shanghai Tang, replacing the Aromatherapy Associates brand that was in use previously. Alternatively, guests can choose between Shanghai Tang, Temple Spa or Refinery as their toiletry of choice so if you’d rather use another brand, you can just call the Conrad Concierge to request.
Club at Conrad Centennial Singapore

As I was staying in the Centennial Suite, access to the Club was automatically included. If you have stayed in Conrad Centennial Singapore prior to the renovation, you’ll be relieved to find that the hotel now has two versions of what we know as the executive lounge. The old one in the 31st floor has been refurbished and now possesses this elegant look. This lounge is now restricted to guests who are booked in Executive Rooms and above. Other than this, guests who are booked in Premium Rooms and Hilton Honors Diamond members get access to the other lounge on the 4th floor instead. I have gone to see both and the notable difference (aside from the interiors) are the drinks being offered as well as desserts. For instance, the 31st floor Club uses Nespresso coffee while the 4th floor lounge uses coffee beans coming from another supplier. The alcoholic beverages differ as well – you’ll find Laurent Perrier champagne in the upper floor lounge.

For everyone’s benefit, here are the benefits of the 31st floor Club at Conrad Centennial Singapore:
- Access to the Club located on Level 31, open from 6:30AM to 11PM daily
- Personalised check-in and check-out services at the Club
- Complimentary light pressing for 3 items per stay
- Complimentary local calls and premium Wi-fi access
- Complimentary usage for 2 hours of the meeting room on the 5th floor on weekdays
- 20% ala carte treatments at Conrad Spa
- Daily buffet breakfast 6:30AM to 10:30AM during weekdays and til 11AM during weekends
- Afternoon tea from 2:30PM to 4:30PM
- Evening cocktails from 5:30PM to 8PM
- Drinks (excluding alcoholic ones) and light refreshments available all day til 10PM
Evening cocktails at the 31st floor Club are mostly similar to what I remember except that now they serve champagne. You’ll also find various types of ales and beer coming from Archipelago Brewery.
In terms of the food, the spread during evening cocktails is mostly sufficient as a light dinner. At the time of my stay, I spotted a number of hot items including grilled prawns while items such as vermicelli salad and sauteed mushrooms graced the cold section.
Breakfast at Oscar’s
I ventured for breakfast at around 8AM but already found a snaking queue outside Oscar’s (which also serves excellent Sunday brunch). I was staying in the hotel over the weekend and a staff member politely asked me if I wanted to have breakfast at the Lobby Lounge instead which I declined.
Of the times I’ve stayed at Conrad Centennial Singapore, I noticed that Oscar’s gets packed pretty easily and one reason is that seating spaces are quite limited. That being said, I noted that staff members here are quick in clearing up tables and also plates after I finish with my rounds. The breakfast buffet offers a well-rounded balance of classics such as bacon, sausages, eggs as well as a decent Asian station with decent nasi lemak and a sizable salad station. For those with a sweeth tooth, look out for the ice cream station.
Verdict
Having stayed at Conrad Centennial Singapore prior to and after the renovation, I thought the current state brings the property up to the level where a Conrad hotel should be. I’ve always loved the soft product and found the service here to be excellent but the dated hard product in the past had put somewhat of a dent into what is rightfully a luxury property. It’s also relieving to find that the hotel has taken steps to address pressing issues such as what was once an executive lounge overflowing with guests. With the renovation, the Conrad Centennial Singapore now stands as a more compelling option vis-a-vis other luxury hotels in the city, even when being compared to newer properties.
Booking It
Conrad Centennial Singapore currently has a staycation offer that starts at S$350 net and is inclusive of S$80 dining credit, 4PM check out, breakfast for 2 and a stay at the Deluxe Room. Assuming the dining credit to be as good as cash, the room stay works out to be just S$270 net. What’s also remarkable is that the property only adjusts its weekend rate at just S$30 higher, a supplement that is considerably lower than other hotels open for staycations. You can also use the SingapoRediscovers vouchers at Conrad Centennial Singapore. You can book their staycation offer here.
